Shamelessly copying and pasting from a Steam forums post:

"2 Indie Bundles 5$ each

http://www.buygamesnotsocks.com/
Delve Deeper (steam)
Spring Harmony
Mactabilis
Steel Storm: Burning Retribution
Digitanks

http://www.indiegamespack.com/
Aztaka (steam)
City Rain
Puzzlegedoon
Bob came in pieces (steam)
Vizati
Lylian Paranoid Friendship

-no charity all to devs as far as I know
-all redeemable on desura too "

The first one looks interesting... Has anyone used Desura? What's it like?

It's a Steam, but targeted towards easy game mod installation plus some indie games. Not a bad thing, as it makes HL1/2 mod installing and managing much easier.

Regarding packs themselves, some really nice games here (Steel Storm, Aztaka, Lylian), will consider buying those. But still I haven't picked everything from my Interplay's wishlist...

Good times.
hell yea im broke right now2 thats just what i need
I got the first one. I don't plan on getting a fraudbook account any time soon so not interested in the second one. I've already got what I wanted from that one anyway.

Desura is shit. Even the fucking uninstaller didn't work properly so I had to do it manually.

Yeah, the second one is actually $10 if you're not a fan of Facebook, but I'd still be more interested in those games (specifically Aztaka and Lylian but the others don't look too bad either). Which of these did you get and how did you like them?

How does this work anyway? Would I get the games as stand-alone dowloads or do they require clients and account creation? I'm also afraid my computer might not meet the system requirements for all new games. Is there any more info on this package somewhere?

First one was selling at 5 EUR. I don't care that they fixed this. Second one requires Fuckbook.

Aztaka is very nice and has a strong retro vibe despite the quality of the graphics being as high as it is. Lylian I also enjoyed, but it felt a bit grindy in places and in the end I gave up on it due to a massive difficulty spike combined with awful checkpoint positioning.

Bob came in Pieces is perhaps a bit too easy for adults. But it is a fine game and worth the asking price by itself as long as you're not looking for anything too challenging.

Both of them offer direct DRM-free downloads, though on the 6-Pack bundle (the one with the facebook discount) you're limited to 9 downloads (and then you have to ask for a new link) and the Socks one said that the links won't be up forever so you have to contact the developers to redownload later. The 6-Pack was all in one big .zip file, which was slightly annoying.

Both bundles also have limited Steam redeemability as well full Desura redeemability.

Of the 6-Pack only Aztaka and Bob Came in Pieces are redeemable on Steam and of the Socks bundle only Delve Deeper is redeemable.

The €5 thing was due to Fastspring's default settings (i.e. he typed in 5 and it applied it to all currencies). The second one doesn't require facebook.

So, is it possible to download the pack, burn it to a DVD and then install and play it offline whenever I want to, even if Steam, Facebook, the Internet or whatever goes down one day, just like I can do with GOGs? In that case I don't care about limited download times.

About redeeming on Steam - sorry for my ignorance but what does that mean exactly? Does it mean I get a DRM-free standalone copy but could additionally download it from Steam, too, if I've got an account there?

Yup. One of the games had a serial key, but it turned out to just be an offline serial (so I put it in a text file with my zip). As long as your backups are good, you need never redownload.

Exactly right. It adds value for those who like Steam, but for people like you and I, we can ignore it.
Ok, thanks for your help, SirPrimalform and Navagon! And thanks for bringing it to my attention, kalirion. :)

I'm going to check out the demos then to see if the games would run on my rig at all.

True, but the package itself doesn't require FB, just the $5 offer. If the games are any good, I'd be willing to pay the extra $5 dollars instead of selling my soul. ;)

I've been contemplating the logistics of getting an FB account and then never posting anything to it or doing anything other than friending accounts for the perks.

FB isn't quite as evil as you think it is, just don't be stupid enough to post anything at all on it, and don't give it your real name or contact information and there's little they can do to hurt you.

But, FB is 99.8% as evil as you think it is. Stay strong.

I pointed this out to someone but they were having none of it. You don't have to give them any real details (as evidenced by the fact that I made a fake account for a supermarket Dr Pepper ripoff).

It is 99.8% evil as you said though.
