doccarnby: How many hours? And what's a good way to avoid condensation?

misteryo: I could never figure out the best way to avoid condensation. But this method has indeed saved my data for me more than once. Sometimes, freezing can give a drive that "one more time" you need to grab your valuables before the boat sinks.

Good luck!

Plastic freezer bags are the key. These are more airtight than ordinary plastic bags. Work quickly. It may work long enough to get a few important files off. If it doesn't, well, you haven't lost any more than you already have.

This video about freezing is admittedly from a data recovery firm, so it might be slanted towards them preferring you get them to handle the drive, but I wouldn't dismiss their opinion entirely.
