It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

MobiusArcher: If you have the money to spend on things, you can also check out World Creator 2.5 for making tilesets. Its 39.99 pounds, so it works out to around 60 USD. It seems to be best suited for isometric. Making your characters would be quite a bit more work that way. I figured I would point it out though, in case you don't know about it.

Thanks for posting this link. I hadn't seen that before. A bit out of my price range, but it looks interesting.

jefequeso: Do these wall shadows look "off" to anyone, or are they ok? I can't tell if maybe I made them too large or not.
They look incoherent to me. Depending which shadow/wall you are looking at, sometimes it seems the sunlight is coming either from the north, northwest or west.

Should be easy to fix, I presume the sunlight is supposed to come from NW because that's how it looks for the most part, but not always.

Or then pretend the game world is on equator at noon, and lose the shadows.

No it's inconsistent. I've drawn over yours to give you an example. When you do it yourself, particularly because the light source seems to be the sun, you'll want it to originate of screen somewhere. Just choose a point and do what I did to see what the angles of the shadows should be like and such. If it where on a 3d plane you could also do the same to see what the length of the shadows would be but you can just wing it here. Basically the higher the light source, the closer to midday, the shorter the shadows should be.

I hope it makes sense :)

Lower them down by 25%.

Also, you'd probably need to modify the engine a bit, since right now, the light is coming from two or three sides, and the shadows aren't following that.
You have some shadow blocks missing, giving the effect of light coming from different directions throughout the scene. Here are the missing shadows in black.

That's dedicated support :P.

@Poster:

Good luck with your game :).

What medium are you considering (regular desktop, phones, browsers, ...)?
Making changes now. Will upload new screenshot

Take a look at BM's screenshot.

What are you using to create the game?

Ok, here's the edited version.

I'm making the game in Gamemaker Standard, so shadowing is mostly painted rather than rendered. I've got a system for per-pixel illumination, though. I'm not sure what venue I'll be trying to distribute it through yet.

I might also try making the shadows a little smaller. Maybe I'll do that today.
