War is just an expression of human nature which is conflict, it has shaped our history and civilization for better or for worse because it is unavoidable as long as there is lust for power. All it is good for is killing and bloodshed of mankind consequently keeping the world in balance.

In for monkeydelarge, as the first one to point out that there are SOME good things that can come from war.

Let me add another: in war conditions trauma medicine makes huge advances that quickly work their way to the civilian world, and also the military medical staff sooner or later transition to the civilian world and they are thus well-versed to deal with those everyday traumas back home.
