It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I don't like google. Never have, never will. And I trust them roughly as far as I can throw them. Never trust a company that says "do no evil". Never trust a company that pretends it is your friend. I like asshole companies. I can work with asshole companies. We see eye to eye. But I really don't like google.

But I still use it. A lot. It didn't get its market dominance for being a bad search engine and I still remember how I loved it the day I discovered it.

That is also the problem. I can't find an alternative that I actually like enough to get me of google for good.

I'm currently using DuckDuckGo, as it has been recommended to be by a friend. Are there any other, maybe better alternatives I should try?

And yes, Elenarie, I tried Bing. I don't like it. ;-P
Yahoo?

If it's good enough for Spiderman...

FantasyNightmare: Yahoo?
That must comes off as really stupid, but I literally did not remember that they also had a search engine. And even my E-Mails is there!

I deleted google finally of my fast search bar. Let's see how it works out.

I would have had a lot of suggestions 10 years ago...
My question is this, If you need no account to use it, where does the mistrust come in? Are you afraid that they are tracking you? Or is it deeper than that? Google, as you said, did not get popular because it sucked. It works, so why not take advantage of it.

I just don't want to use it. I can mask my identity pretty well if I have to, but google currently has (in Germany) something of a 95% market share. That is not good for something so important.

They also track you even without an account.
Well... there's YaCy, though it's likely not what you're looking for unless you're intrigued by the idea of setting up your own search engine.

Personally I use DuckDuckGo, but you're already aware of that one.

But why does it matter if they track what you search for? Just set your browser to remove all cookies from them periodically.

Even after a minute I didn't find where I could write "Scarlett Johansson nude"... so yeah, not really for me....
If Google's lax stance on privacy is your main concern, I would suggest startpage.com, which gives reasonable results (taken from Google) with a much better stance on privacy.

As I said, the privacy issue is not my concern, it is the market diversity I am concerned about. And my gut feeling.

I see. So, just so I know I understand, you are trying to use something different so the market is still diversified there?

Just trying to do a very small part.
And, just to add more controversy, you know DuckDuckGo, why looking for more? :p
