I think if my Amazon Kindle catches on fire, it's pretty safe to say what my review will be.

"The hottest ebook reader on the market!" ... ?
Actually sounds kind of primitive, like the follow up is going to he 'Amazon Kindle: The Wheel'

Looks like the e-reader has become a fully fledged tablet.

And in adding colour, they replaced the e-ink screen that is, in my opinion, the primary reason for an e-book reader.

Exactly, IPS are great panel for video, games and a lot of thing... but they are awful crap on a stick monstrosity compared to E-Ink when it come to actually reading books.

Personally I would have been more interested by a color E-Ink Kindle.

Yes, me too. Is there any news on colour E-Ink? (I've not looked). Can't really use the current black and white E-Ink for reading electronic comics, it just doesn't do them justice.

It does exist., apparently.
Hanvon brings world's first color E Ink reader to CES, we go hands-on (video) (Engadget).

Interesting. Let's hope that the technology has improved since January and that something good quality shows up over the next year.
It has an IPS panel instead of a eInk display. That is my review.
Kobo did the same thing with their Vox just recently, not long at all after they released the Touch, and I can't say I was terribly excited.

I expect it's probably due to customer feedback. Technical people like us understand the merits and limitations of e-ink quite well, but I can picture in my mind the large number of customer calls asking why there aren't any apps to buy from their online store.
