FlintlockJazz: Yeah, I'd have to say you do unfortunately, otherwise you get no warning from the howls or the music change before its there and can see you, which pretty much means game over at that point.

Virama: Dammit. Guess I need to invest in some really good headphones now....

Does anyone know any good ones I can buy? I own a Steinehauser but there's just not QUITE enough bass. I need like, illegal amounts - problem here is that no sane hearing person would make headphones that go THAT loud... Any ideas?
After reading about them on headfi.org, I got the Shure ES215's. They run about a hundred bucks but everybody is raving about their quality being far beyond that level. For one thing, they are built like a tank, using the same housing Shure uses on their top of the line in-ear monitors that cost five times as much. For another (and this is particularly a relief to people frightened off of some very good earphones that are made with horrible cords so that you have to keep replacing them and buying new ones all the time), the cord is substantial and has very good stress relief so you won't rip the things apart just by the slightest tug. For another, they have plenty of bass.

I'm not a bass head, so I found the bass TOO much until I adjusted the equalizer on my computer and on my sansa fuze MP3 player. But now the mid-range has picked up enough for me to like the sound signature of the phones in general. Especially at this price. These phones contain dynamic speakers inside, so you don't get quite the precision of certain aspects of sound that you get with a balanced armature design (separate tiny speakers inside each ear monitor for bass and treble), but you do get good sound. And unlike many IME's with balanced armature speakers, a dynamic speaker can be fitted into a housing that doesn't stick out from your ear so much you can't roll over on your side while listening without stabbing your own ear.

Check out the forums at headfi.org for more of a rundown if you like. Anyway, I've tried them and think they are very good, and for the price point are fantastic.
Finally finished it.

Still gives me the creeps when I think about those rooms...
Talk about Amnesia, I was scared silly with the predecesor, Penumbra. I could never get past the dang dog, and it scared me to detah. Could never kill it, so I had to quit. :(

You'd like Penumbra Black Plague and Amnesia. You can't kill anything in those. All you can do is RUN.

I played Amnesia before Black Plague. I thought that, having played Amnesia, I could easily conquer BP.

I was dead (hah) wrong.

Alas, it didn't get the same recognition that Amnesia did, though I staunchly believe it should have. It's also got one of the coolest disembodied villains (Clarence) that I'd personally rank up there with the likes of SHODAN.

It never gave me nightmares, only a slight headache once.

The atmosphere is great and the first few monsters almost scared me to death. I played some Silent Hill-games and Amnesia is so much scarier because you can't fight back. But at some point I got some routine in hiding and one time I heard a monster come I just thought "Not this again, I would like to get on with the game kthxbye." The message at the beginning says that the players should avoid this way of thinking to enjoy the game, but I just couldn't...

But besides that moment, I really enjoyed it ... well, enjoyed is not exactly the right term ... at times, I found it hard to go on. As a friend of mine put it, it's the fear of the fear. And I could never bring myself to play it in a dark room, or maybe only once.

And yes, you NEED sound. Not only as warning signs, but without sound, I think there will be significantly less horror. Were those footsteps real or hallucination...?

But the story is a bit disappointing, I think. It is not really explained what this Alexander-guy is actually doing.

And I think I should check out Penumbra

I bought it when it was on sale the other week. I hope it gives me nightmares.

TheCheese33: Recently, I've been trying to play Amnesia again. And it is giving me some serious nightmares. That scream, that horrid scream the monster makes, has been invading my sleep. And this is the first time in years that I have had such an experience.

I want to stop playing, but part of me wants to endure the nightmares and reach the conclusion. The story seems like it will have some fantastic conclusion, and I'm all about a thrilling narritive. I'm just not sure how sane I will be when the dust clears.
Just fight fire with fire. Imagine the most horrible monster possible on your side, to deal with those pesky nightmare monsters. Then just imagine yourself some popcorn and enjoy the show.

acemarch: I'd try it if I had the money left to get it and it was cheap enough, however I can't take the game seriously since watching : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loSzpvq73FY
The best part is "Oh shit, I got a bag of Milky Ways!"
I'm surprised so many people couldn't finish it out of fear. I love getting scared by games, which is why this was my 2nd favorite game of last year (2nd to Minecraft).

If you have the game on Steam, you really should play the "Justine" bonus content. At the first launcer, you will see "Justine" in the bottom right corner. Click it and there is a totally different storyline.

I like "What is that? That's not... That's not traditional... fire" xD because we all know fire is not fire unless it's traditional xD and let's not forget "tindah cylindar" xD
