Does anyone know what this is called. I need a cable that plugs from my modem to the computer.

Is it called a cat5 cable or a ethernet cable? Not so good with computers. Just bought an xbox360 but have no wifi. Would like to buy another cable so I can play xbox live but need this kind of cable to plug from the modem to the xbox360.

They have so many names for these cables at the store that it gets confusing. At one store they had a cat6 cable I really dont know what difference it is from the cat5 cable.

Thanks...
It's called an ethernet cable and cat5 is the type of ethernet cable.

A cat6 is the newest spec. More stable, more bandwidth, less interference, can support faster speeds. Right now there's no practical reason to have a cat6 cable (since there's no practical application to use the increased bandwidth) but if the price is similar, no harm in getting it. They are backwards compatible in cat5.

cat 5e is the one that the OP wants, the only harm with going with cat6 is the added cost though. In practice I don't expect anybody to use cat6 any time soon at least not for home use as cat5e can handle up to 1gbps using modern technology. Of course assuming one chooses the correct networking equipment.
