I'm trying to find a good modern game that plays like Quake. That means it has decent graphics and physics (specifically ragdoll physics).

Can anyone suggest a good game like that? I have my hopes set on the new ROTT game coming out at the end of the month, but I wanted to see if anyone else had heard of something I hadn't.

Conditions:

DRM Free (that means no steam either)
Ragdoll physics
Single player (no arena shooters)
Not a horror or stealth game

Made by a professional studio or indie, free or pay, it doesn't matter.

No need to suggest the following:
Painkiller
Serious Sam
Hard Reset
FarCry
Any game with DRM
Well, um, you can buy into the Wrack Beta if you pre-order it.
Quake 4

Am I to assume you don't want anything with a HUD? :P

Soldier of Fortune 2, if you can find it anywhere.
The key points are classic action, ragdoll physics, and no drm.

Wrack doesn't have ragdoll physics.

I had Quake 4 on my xbox, but the hud bothered me, so I sold it. I can usually mod pc games to get rid of the hud (usually, but not always). Quake 4 isn't available without DRM on pc though.

I have Soldier of Fortune and Soldier of Fortune 2 (and briefly had Soldier of Fortune Payback), but SoF2 doesn't have ragdoll physics.

Why is ragdoll physics so important? Doesn't seem like that would add much to the game play.

Personally, I'm thinking about buying Rise of the Triad when it comes out here, and it should fulfill all the other points, not sure about the physics.

I'm not sure if your question is rhetorical or if you really want to know. I'm honestly a little surprised that it's not obvious.

I want ragdoll physics for the same reason I like playing games without a hud. Those things make games more immersive. In games that use animation for deaths, it feels stiff and fake. Once you've seem them die, it's always the same. Physics make the game feel more believable. Plus it's just fun to watch a guy tumble down the stairs.

I have old games and play them because I like the classic gameplay more than the slow paced duck and cover shooters all over the place now. I just want one classic shooter that has physics. I don't think that's too much to ask.

What I'd really like is a game that not only had ragdoll physics, but also soft bodies, physics based AI movement, destructible environments, fluid dynamics, and that connected directly into my brain so it would feel completely real. I'm just trying to be realistic.

The new Rise of the Triad will have physics. I've watched several videos that demonstrate it. I'm guessing that's my best bet.

Immersion has little to do with graphics. Most of the most immersive FPS games I've played were from the early '90s when graphics were terrible. I haven't been immersed in a game, to the extent that I was in Doom and Wolf 3D in any game that was made after 2000. The graphics contribute somewhat, but they typically ignore the subtleties that made those older games so immersive.

It's all about suspending believe and just being the character. Rag Doll physics are nice, but they don't really add that much to the game, IMHO.
Undying..

Get the retail release. Quake 4 v1.0 required a serial key and disc check. The disc check was removed in a later patch.

edit:
There's a demo you can check out to see if it meets your needs.
