Fever_Discordia: Both Starlancer and Crimson Skies existed in this strange transitionary period after people realised that live action FMV WASN'T the best thing to ever happen to video games but before modern, animated cut scenes became the norm so Crimson Skies ended up like a radio play with the odd visual cue now and again and Starlancer, I can't even remember how Starlancer did it - you had to read the newspaper or something?
I kind of missed Mark Hamill and Biff off of Back to the Future hamming it up though...
The story in Starlancer was narrated by great and long prerendered cut-scenes (without actors) plus some short cut-scenes using game engine.
But I must say FMV with live actors will always have a warm place in my heart. Maniac face in WC4: "My promotion came?!" :-)
I completely missed out on both Starlancer and Freelancer when they came out. However, I recently obtained Freelancer and have played just under three hours so far and what I've played so far I've really enjoyed. The mouse control style gameplay is really quite different for a space sim but it does work.

Freelancer runs on my Vista x64 without any problems. The hardware check file doesn't contain newer GPU details, obviously, so that does trigger a warning message about possible graphical issues, but I've not seen any with my GTX260.
Thanks for the sharing all glad to find many fans of Starlancer still around.

Looking forward to Star Citizen when it comes out will provide more space dogfighting fun as well from Chris Roberts.

so i finally got it to work, it seemed it was something to do with the disc drive, i tried installing it through a usb one and it worked, runs great now, one thing though anyone ever work out how to make the colors 16bit? the nebulas look weird, like almost polygonal..... it seems its an old problem on new systems/cards.

xxxIndyxxx: hahaha, i should go look for it. Anybody know if it will run on modern systems (freelancer).
It does on windows 7 64 bit.
yes it definitely does, i have just installed it on win 7 64, runs great with no compatability modes, on a sidenote, as far as i know, it only goes as high as 1280x1024, any higher and it crashes.
Sadly, I never had the chance to play Starlancer. In fact, I only learned about it thanks to the awesome intro of Freelancer (a game I truly enjoyed several years after its release). When I mentioned the intro to a friend, he spoke to me of its prequel, praising it so much that I regretted the lost opportunity. :D

I really hope to see both games on GOG someday!
I remember spending a lot of time playing this game on my dreamcast , good memories :)
Still have it for PC, reminds me of another I got back then Tachyon The Fringe, must root them out and see if they work.
