I watched the 1979 cut last week(I previously watched the Redux version)
and I find myself not being able to get it out my head, did it have the same effect on you guys?
I really want to see this movie but the store I rent movies don't have it :(
I love the smell of my own farts in the morning, it smells like victory!

(notice that my farts are far more deadly than napalm)
Indeed, and it still shows the problems of modern military conflicts without showing any signs of age.
I don't remember when was the last time I have watched it but some scenes are still pretty vivid in my head.
There is a reason it stands as one of the greatest films ever.

No one remembers North Shore! :P

Well okay, I do, but I'm all screwed up.
I saw some kind of extended version, and thought it was kind of long and tedious. Later, Wikipedia told me that most of the scenes where I was tapping my fingers and waiting for them to end were exactly the ones that were cut in the theatrical release. Sometimes, editors know their job.

That was the Redux he mentioned earlier. Most people loved that version but I'm with you. The bulk of the added stuff was regarding a French plantation and it was good for a history lesson as most Americans have no clue that we were the second group of idiots to go over there, but apart from that it was all together unnecessary..
Apocalypse Now, fantastic film and it got me into The Doors thanks to the usage of their song The End.
love it but the redux is strictly for the converted - if you want conversion get the theatrical release - make sure you have good sound equipment and settle in for the experience.
I envy people who haven't seen it yet...
I agree that the original cut works way better as a film than the redux. While I like the added scenes when considered on their own, they completely derail the oppressive feeling of slow descent into darkness that the river journey otherwise creates.

Personally, I consider Apocalypse Now to be a horror movie, in the true sense of that word. Every time I watch it, I feel like I understand Kurtz a little better and have slightly better sense of where he's coming from - even though we're nothing alike, I can see how someone could get to there from here. And there ain't nothing more horrifying than that.
One of my favourite all time movies for sure!
If anyone gets the chance check out "Hearts of Darkness" (no not Heart of Darkness though the book and all the movies are still great) but "Hearts of Darkness". It's a documentary made by FFC's wife who at the time just considered what she was doing was making some silly home movies but as things progressed she realized she was in fact documenting what very well might be the last remnants of her husbands sanity as well as the collapse (physically and mentally) of everyone involved in the production. Obviously things turned out all right in the end, but like Laurence Fishburne is fond of saying, "We basically all went down there and went insane." Paraphrasing there.

Anyway if you love "Apocalypse Now" you need to check "Hearts of Darkness"; gripping terrifying stuff to be sure.

I still remember Harrison Ford's face (as colonel Lucas) from the briefing scene.
He looked so young and nerdy, not much like badass Indiana Jones!
i know the documentary - a must-see for anyone WHO gets the apocalypse now-shakes. i tend to think of the movie as a fever to itself - some people get it some don't, you never can tell beforehand. incidently, maybe i'm showing my ignorance here - why is WHO automatically capitalized?
