Crosmando: Yeah I saw this, and was just about to pledge, then I looked at the previous projects of this company and cringed. I'm not a graphics whore, but the wannabe anime-ish art-style of '1931: Scheherazade' and 'Academagia' I must admit make this a deal-breaker for me, especially when there's no indication on that page or in the video they will be using a different artist for this game.
They posted an early screenshot and it doesn't look anime-ish to me. In fact nothing in the project hints close to their earlier games I think.

Crosmando: Also, although I'm not familiar with this PnP system, I understand that it's not a traditional PnP RPG, and it's also relatively speaking a new one. This game sounds like it would much more like managing a kingdom with a Choose-your-own-adventure interface and stats, like King of Dragon Pass. Certain not controlling a party of characters who have a physical location at all times.
This IS correct. It is challenging, involving and replayable, but definitely not for everyone.

BadDecissions: Another doomed Kickstarter that gives virtually no information about the project.

ktchong: The video pitch assumes people already know what Ars Magica is.
They realized this and changed the home page into something that now explains what the game should look like.

ktchong: ...generic medieval fantasy RPG with overpowered magic...
It does feature overpowered magic, still I think this is rare in video games. Most games have mages blasting their way through, but magic in Ars Magica can be grand or subtle, so squeezing all spells from the 5th edition into a video game is an intriguing idea.
"Kickstarter", "old school", "medieval", "RPG": Stop me if you've heard this one before.

RaggieRags: Ars magica is actually set into the real medieval world, not a fantasy world. Well, it's alternate history. Magic is real etc.
ok, so it is a fantasy world then...

Austrobogulator:
Also covenant, plagues, prestige, research, King of Dragon Pass...

I guess, but not just "another generic fantasy RPG".
I take back my previous comment then, does indeed look very good art style. I just backed, hopefully it picks up as it isn't looking too good right now.

Aye broseph, was gonna post that screenshot this morning but forgot about it.

Fun fact I just discovered: the Ars Magica core rules were co-developed by Mark Rein-Hagen.

Yes, that Mark Rein-Hagen. x)

Hmm so the similarities with the flexible magic system of Mage the Ascension don't stop there... :)

Update 5, about politics and covenants

I don't think any KS not meeting its goal has disappointed me as much as this, not even Nexus 2 :(
Newest update, with conceptualization of what combat will look like: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blackchickenstudios/ars-magica-video-game/posts/346921?ref=activity

I really hope they continue with this even if the Kickstarter fails.
They should have had concrete stuff like screenies from the start.

I upped my pledge but it looks like the kickstart is a lost cause. A shame, there should be more unique games like this.
Aye, unique is correct. What other games are there like that, really? Only KoDP and Academagia come to mind.
Uniqueness might be what killed it. It looks too confusing. It's easier to sell a game that's "just like that game you used to love way back". Most game kickstarts seem to be riding on nostalgia and people would rather feed those old-skool dungeon crawlers than something new.
