So, recently I've dipped my toe into the MMO world. Played a bit of Rift and some Neverwinter. At this point I'm a little more partial to Neverwinter, but not for any specific reason other than I like the look of it a bit more. Any way, I've been happily smashing along, not getting myself killed and there are certain areas where you can help others out without actually being on a 'team'. I like doing that. I run in, smash some heads, and head off on my merry way without waiting around for thanks like a super hero.
Well, today I got a friend request and I was...well, I'm not sure. I didn't want to be rude. But at the same time, I didn't really want to commit to the whole friend thing either. I mean, I don't really know the other person and, frankly, I'm socially inept even by internet standards.
So, I guess I'm asking those steeped in the MMO culture, what's they typical protocol? Accet the request and hope they don't expect me to actually be very social? Just flat out tell them if they want a friend to buy a dog?
Don't think it has escaped me that I'm saying I have a social quandry based on a platform that is by its nature supposed to be social. I just feel really ambivalent about this kind of stuff and could use some feedback/opinions.
