Hello,

I'm trying to figure out why I don't meet the recommended settings for BioShock (1). For some reason System Requirements Lab says that my video card only has 242.2 MB of the recommended 512 MB Video RAM.

But if you look at the system specs for the ATI Radeon HD 5670 the Video RAM says 512 MB.

Even stranger is that when looking through dxdiag I get 242 MB as well. So it's not an error with the site, it's actually the video card?
This question / problem has been solved by klaattuimage
What kind (brand) of card is it?

Awesome, that shows 512 mb.

Now I have a new question though.. Are my video games taking advantage of the other 220 MB of Video RAM if dxdiag only shows 242 MB?

Yes they are using it ;)
Probably just a reading error, your GC should work as a whole as specified.
Sorry, I had to give the solution to klaattu for GPUz.

Thank you all! I upped the two other people that helped!! :)

Man, that makes me happy. So basically, any game that the site says I don't meat the requirements because I only have 242 MB, I meat it because I actually have 512. :)

It may be faulty memory.

Some utilities only report what the card card information without having any way of verifying anything. It could be worth trying something like Memory Stress Test to see if there might be a problem.

Why do you even bother checking that site? Isn't easier just to install and try?
Here's a demo for Bioshock. You can try it and see how it runs in your computer

Not when you have to pay money to buy the game, why not look up if you can before getting it on the PC. I'd rather get it on the Xbox 360 if my PC can't run it then spending 2x as much.

You can easily look the minimum requirements on Steam?
Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 3.0 (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550)
