jepsen1977: This is just a part of GoG getting bigger and then also attracting all the retards from the Steam forums and XBox Live forums. There are still many people here you can have a good debate with about games and especially old games but when you encounter the retards then all you can do is to simply let it slide and leave it at that.

Sure, but I think most people would be able to tell that the gist of my post was to say that as GoG gets bigger it also attracts people who are not that interested in debating good old games but instead prefer to stir up shit on the forums and start a flame war. I'm sorry if I called these people "retards".

predcon: In truth, I think I was just trying to save a few hundred bucks on therapy by getting a second opinion here, first, as to whether or not I'm crazy to think I'm not expecting too much of people. I think that decision in and of itself puts my sanity into question, but then I don't think it was ever clearly defined.
As a M.D. I have a hard time believing anything you'd see on the internet would actually be much worse than what you likely see in your job (well, mostly because you've intimated you work ER shifts).

Seriously, I don't want to see goatse pop up on my screen (IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS YOU DO NOT WANT TO) any more than you do, but I'm not sure I'd be scarred by it:)

Now, I'm with you, at work or if someone is in the room, hell no I don't click on random links. Even if I'm willing to risk the random link (and no one else is around to be offended) I usually steer clear of domains I don't trust (because I don't want my computer to get owned, more than for any sensitive brain cells I have remaining).

If you're that stressed and pissed about your job (and who isn't?) maybe take some time off. I mean, you don't want to kill yourself with stress do you? If you're pulling ER shifts I would assume you can afford a little time (even unpaid) and doctors are in short supply, so if they shitcan you, you can probably laugh it off over to the next place.
Well, I'll try to give a meaningful response. I think the biggest issue here is something most people are failing to try to understand. I get it that we can have feelings hurt, one way or the other from the most inconvenient terms, but to top it off with a new thread about you hurting someone else's feelings just seems a little topical. Of course, we can all start there if we really wanted to, but I don't think that's the message you were trying to convey. With a useless thread or not, the better place to start would be to find out what really happened, and then to address it from there forward. I think you are fired up for having been misread and that can happen to anyone really. No one can make such a mistake without ever realizing it. If you really want to figure out a way to topple the biggest thing bothering you, then you have to start with you and your own luck. I hope his helps...good luck!
Predcon, I hope you get some time off soon and just relax for awhile. You deserve it for all the hard work you seem to be doing. Also it would help with that stress you seem to be suffering.

Hoping you feel better soon, at any rate.
Brilliant :-)
Yeah, you were being a dick in that thread. You asked for help with the Magicka achievement, and someone posted a link to a youtube video and you, instead of spending one second checking it out and verifying if it was even related to Magicka, suggested that the guy should type out the instructions for your benefit. The worst thing that can happen by clicking on a youtube link is that you lose 5 seconds of your time figuring out that the link is useless.

It was relevant to the thread at hand and it actually helped me to get the achievement. Either way, you didn't need to lambaste the guy for trying to help, especially since others had already posted other solutions.

Thread at hand for context.
OP is in the wrong here. Other people can't guess your idiosyncrasies. We aren't mind readers. No one can guess that you don't like youtube links without accompanying explanations. Why? Because you can click on a youtube link to see the webpage title, and then x out of the window before the video even loads. So yeah, the guy linked to a video that would have answered your question perfectly.

Most people don't mind if someone replies with just a youtube link, if the link takes you to a video that answers your question perfectly. Don't like the way someone helps you? Tough luck and just ignore the person. But being rude to them makes you the jerk, doubly so if they actually tried to help.

Also, I don't see why it makes a difference whether the poster makes a comment in addition to posting the youtube link, since if the poster is the type of person to link to a smart ass meme video, then that person is just as liable to lie in his comment about whether the youtube link will answer the question. In other words, whether the poster includes a comment is not more or less indicative that the link goes to a helpful video.

The problem is that what you're expecting of people is unreasonable. You're expecting anyone who replies to your opening post to know that you don't like youtube links without accompanying descriptions. No one could know that. That is a very unreasonable thing to expect. It isn't standard courtesy for people to give accompanying explanations. In fact, I think it's far more common for people to just link to youtube videos without saying anything else. Do you honestly think that what you're expecting of strangers is reasonable?

I could understand you expecting this if you knew the other posters well, and if the other posters knew in advance that you didn't like clicking blindly on youtube links. But no one could know that. It's impossible to guess, and it isn't rude to just post a link if the linked video is on topic. Does that make sense?

Once upon a time it was common courtesy to at least label links as "(not) safe for work". Most people didn't find that unreasonable at all, nor did they have much problem understanding why others didn't want to click just any odd link (and youtube links say absolutely nothing about the content, only that it's hosted on youtube and presumably not too offending). I guess times have changed.

I assume if someone doesn't label something as nsfw then it's sfw......call me silly that way.

Any entertaining stories to tell because of that assumption? =P

Not really. And c'mon, as others here have said it's easy to x out of a link if it turns out to be a bad one(Plus with flashblock you can block videos from autoplaying on youtube.).
