spinefarm: Uh what? Played them both on Xbox 360 and I've never said they are bad games
Uh, wait, what? I need new glasses, because i clearly read your post that said that both were "mediocre console titles". Unless mediocre means good now.

avatar
spinefarm: .... but "the best".... no they aren't. Bayonetta is a DMC + couple of more combos & female protoganist. Nothing that special.
Yeah thats your opinion. What i didnt agree with you on the original post was the way you just bashed both titles without any reason.

spinefarm: Rofl metactritic? You want to go that way:
God of War III - Metascore: 92
So depending on metascore: God Of War is the best Beat'em Up Action game ;)
Its one of the best, thats for sure.
What is the main reason that bayonetta is better than DMC. In my opinion it's that bayonetta is simply more fun. DMC feels like a giant grind whereas bayonetta is smooth, fast and well.. made better.

Also God of War 3 can stake a claim to best in the genre just like Bayonetta. It's an opinion.

(Did anyone else have trouble with the final boss in bayonetta or do i just suck?)

Yes mediocre is not bad - they are just not fantastic. I got bored with Bayonetta after 2 hrs of playing
I've enjoyed Enslaved Odyssey to the West... and played it on one sitting... yet Bayonetta bored me....

This generation remembers DMC 1 & the God of War series... and Bayonetta have a lot to go to be next to them...

ovoon: Uhh... last time I checked, God of War 3 was pretty damn fantastic.
avatar
spinefarm: Yes it still is and yet Bayonetta have pretty simiilar metascore... my point was that the Metascore is not an argument to say a game is "one of the best of this generation"
So here we are saying that Bayonetta and God of War 3 are some of the best hack and slash games ever to be released, and you justify Metacritic's incredibility by saying that it's wrong because their metascores match the opinions that we currently express? What the hell? You only proved my point further! I personally feel that those are fitting scores for both games, when compared to the current scale of rating games.

The whole argument started over this statement:

Roman5: I disagree with you there

Bayonetta is the best Action game this generation so far and Vanquish is the best TPS this generation so far
I've enjoyed at least 10 other games in the genre over Bayonetta that have smaller metascores... The game is not bad but it didn't show something new to the genre - it is a polished DMC with a female protagonist.

YOU didn't enjoy it. You're OPINION isn't the end all. I might think Bayonetta is better than 8 or 9 of those games (depending on what they are). Bayonetta though is literally the only game in it's genre that i've enjoyed. i've played God of war DMC and a bunch of others. it's just not my cup of tea.

Also Enslaved Enslaved Odyssey to the West is super underrated by a lot of people IMO. (if this is in the same genre i guess i enjoyed this one too)

The point was that I've never recalled somebody bought a Console just to play Bayonetta ...yet a lot of ppl bought PS3 to play God Of War 3 ;) or PS1 back in the day to play DMC...

And how exactly Bayonetta is your cup of tea,but DMC isn't? Explain me this part ;)

It's not really.... I just like playing it more than DMC. like you said...it's polished. Also i think out of the games mentioned the only one that's still a console seller is God of War. It's got a stupid big fan base.

Plus... God of war and Devil May Cry were originally Playstation exclusives right? You were required to have a certain console to play that game... When Bayonetta came out you most likely already owned a console that it was released on.

Edit: But when new systems come out a new god of war will sell a system and bayonetta won't. I'll give you that. But maybe it's like music. Sales don't mean everything. a second bayonetta may very well be better than a 4th god of war.

Like I said in the eurogamer comments, low-selling games not getting sequels is not surprising or even wrong. It's a bummer, but the company is being smart.

Oh wells.

So you're basing your analysis of the games critical success on sales and hype? Critically the game did just as well, from the user scores and critic scores. Just give up, your point has become completely moot and you're arguing an opinion WITH an opinion. It doesn't work. PEOPLE LOVE BAYONETTA. You don't. Get over it.

Bayonetta did up to expectations I thought? When did it sell poorly? I know it's far from a hot seller, but still.

I dunno, I just read articles that said it sold poorly. If you have other evidence lay it on me. If it made good money though of course Sega would make a sequel, so I doubt it did.

My opinion is based on 16-17 years of gaming. And yes Bayonetta is not a game that will be remembered. It's nothing new and breathetaking. The first DMC was a game to remember, DMC 2 was made by another director and it was a screw up. DMC3 is the closest to the original and yet not that good. DMC4 is mediocre too...just like Bayonetta.

It reviewed well, I'm not sure if it sold well. Certainly it did not on release, you could get the XBox 360 version for 15 bucks within just a few months of release.
