Meh. I've kind of given up on being a cracker. I just want to play things legit. (I know, I know, but you get what I mean.) I'm also becoming too high-profile these days and too busy to boot to bother. :) Doom 3 works fine as it is and I have the list:

which is what I needed the subtitles for in the first place so I just plonk it onto my other monitor (love you dual screen) and I'm good to go. :)

I tried lots of mods, large and small, but found none so impressive that I would recommend them.

I basically run a vanilla install of D3 now along with the ambient light mod I mentioned. It's easy to install / uninstall and addressed the light problem. I like to play a fast shooter game. Raising the ambient light made it just right for speed runs . . at least for me . . . =)
