timppu: Since Youtube is full of only Sierra and LucasArts MT-32 examples but missing lots of other less known MT-32 games (which I've also mentioned in this thread), I'm now in a process of trying to record some myself. At least then I can add to Youtube examples that _I_ think are the bestest, even if no one else cares. :)
First problem: I realized that laptops don't have line-in. :) Not sure if using the mic input (without using an actual mic) would work just as well, but probably I'll try to do the recording on my old desktop PC which is running Windows XP and Linux Mint.
I recall trying some recording long time ago on Windows XP, but for some reason its Sound Recorder wouldn't record more than for a couple of seconds? If that is still the case, I hope Linux has better options for recording audio coming to line-in. Or then I have to find some other Windows XP compatible recording software, maybe Audacity?
Second "issue" is that I'm still contemplating whether I should try the recording from my real Roland CM-32L, or just use Munt emulator. Since I go through all this trouble, maybe I want to do it properly from the real thing, even if one wouldn't necessarily hear the difference.
Currently the CM-32L is connected to an ancient Pentium-133 machine with which I haven't used it previously, so first I have to try whether it works at all with it. If not, another option is to use the USB-to-MIDI cable I bought two years ago to be able to use CM-32L with modern PCs, but I've not used that converter before this. Hope it works.
Or, does someone know if it is possible to record Munt output digitally to a file within the same computer, without having to use any analog audio cables or anything between computers? That would be easiest of course, even if the sound is coming "only" from Munt.
I probably won't try to create any proper gameplay videos with FRAPS or anything (especially if I run the games on the Pentium 133), maybe just add some still pictures from the games to the videos.
Oh well, here goes nothing...
If your laptop has a mic plugin, you can record without an actual mic provided you have the cord for line-in recording. That's how I use my Sound Canvas and MT-32 on my laptop for DOS games that support it, plug it in and enable the listen feature for the external mic, and prepare to listen to MIDI greatness.
