Starlancer: Classic Space combat sim in the style of Wing Commander. Good graphics (even today they don't look all that bad), great atmosphere, excellent soundtrack, superb mission design. Enjoyed it much more than this"kind of" sequel Freelancer. Sadly the ingame backgrounds look a bit messy since it's not fully supported by modern GPUs. Other than that, it should be perfectly playable.
Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance: Last game of the X-Wing series by developed by Totally Games. Many say that it's not as good as
X-Wing or
TIE-Fighter but it's still an excellent game. I grew up playing this which was the beginning of my love for the genre of space combat sims. I'm still playing it from time to time these days. Check out this great project if you want to enjoy the game with upgraded models:

Tachyon: I must be honest here: I haven't really played this one yet. Well, people say it's good and it is definitely on my "To Play" list. The game is available on
or directly on [url=http://www.novalogic.com/games.asp?GameKey=TTF]Novalogic's website.
And of course there are tons of mods and even entire games based on the Freespace Open project. Might post more about this later...
Edit: Ooops, didn't see that the thread was that old, damn. Might create a new one then...
