You never heard of the King's Quest series? It's only one of the most influential adventure game series in existence. :P

The first couple games honestly weren't that great (more technologically amazing for their time than storywise amazing), but AGD did a nice job of redoing and fixing them up. Not that I could get through the third one (in the original OR their game).

Yup, the 3rd one always got me too.. Never finished it either.
Thanks for the link, though i knew of them. I've played first and second King's Quest, they are very well done remakes.

Problem is the base material, the infuriating design, making them games close to unplayable and unenjoyable without a walkthrough / clear hints. Sierra hotline crap as I call it with reason, being its money logic wasting nice games.

I loved kings quest 6 and 7 got through parels of Rosella after a month of trying, a walkthrough + youtube videos, and would love to play alexzanders first game where he discovers his family.

I have it but with the interface and moving so bad and all that timed stuff I dont think I could ever get through it .The first rosella game was a nightmare in that I died many times trying to navagate a single flight of stairs near the end, and took a bit on that part, the whale thing took 2 hours of trying with saved games.

If it now has a modern interface, at least as modern as alexzanders second game: kings quest 6, I might re try it but from what I hear theres alot of spell typing you have to get perfect but I love daventry lore and the kingsquest world.
I played through these. It's a nice little graphical / UI update that makes the games more playable than the older versions. For the first game, it even gives you the opportunity to play without the "dead ends" that could make you unable to continue in the game.

My only problem was with number 3 - the horrific timer in that game makes it impossible to beat unless you know exactly what you are doing (and its extremely difficult to beat even then), but the new version doesn't give you any options for number 3 like it does with the first one... they should've added an extended timer or something to make the game at least a little bit playable. Nothing against adginteractive, the base material is what it is - but if they could give you some options for number 1, why not number 3?

Still, I'd recommend these updated versions for anyone interested in playing these games.
I've finished the remakes a few days before the Time Thingie Sale GOG had here. Gotta say that, despite the dettering timer [did i use that word right?] it's really fun and rewarding once You get the hang of Manannan's needs. Honestly, from the first three, i enjoyed the third one the most. Now i'm waiting for 4-6 to appear on sale, or as ADG remakes (KQ4 at least), whichever comes first.

The only quirk i had with the remakes was the voiceacting. To my surprise i really disliked Josh Mandel's reprisal of Graham, he sounded muted as if he had a very cheap mic, and kinda lifeless.
I bought the collection on CD years ago and I must say, they didn't really need any revamping for me. I loved the parser and the age-old graphics. But I can certainly understand putting in some time to update a much-beloved game.

I also did not like a lot of the illogical puzzles. KQ had a lot of logical ones and a lot of illogical ones.

I personally have only played 1, 5 and the 3D one. I actually really enjoyed the 3D one when it was made. It had things in it that I haven't seen to this day. It just wasn't KQ nor a proper RPG.

I read a C64 magazine ages ago and people were raving about how you could go in front of and behind a tree (much like the linked article on the GOG front page). People were astonished by what KQ did for PC gaming. And its affects are still present.

I think we need more parser adventure games.

Yeah, King's Quest was a truly eye-popping game back in the day. I also agree about the parser. I think it was Josh Mandel who said in an interview that he misses parser games because the switch to mouse control and using icons for everything really changed the feel of Sierra's games on a fundamental level and maybe not for the better.

Of the original games, I think King's Quest 3 was the first one I was able to beat without resorting to hints. It was a good feeling working everything out with respect to the schedule and creating to spells. Maybe I beat 2 also...can't remember. I probably would have been able to beat the first if not for the accursed Rumpelstiltskin puzzle.
Did know about remakes, didn't know they were finished.

+1 for the info.
Thanks everyone for the replies.. I really didn't think anyone liked the King's Quest series all that much. It's those and Ultima 5-6 that I started playing on my 286 12 mghz 40mb 256k ram machine lol..

Don't forget to get Quest for glory 2 remake also.. It was also a good remake
