I recall almost a couple decades ago upgrading to a 56.6k modem and not getting as much of a speed boost as I should have (from 28.8k). I read that signing up for a trial for call display, etc, would get the phone company to switch the line over to new equipment (where it would stay when the trial expired), which would also improve the connection speed. It was literally a day or two later when the phone company called me with an offer for some new features I didn't want, so I said yes and got my internet speed up to the expected maximum.
Have you tried contacting your ISP? They may not do much if they have a monopoly, but at least some ISPs have been known to install line filters, etc, if there are noise issues, or at least test if the problem is with the local wiring or their own lines.
Developers get a larger cut of the profits with direct sales.
Of Kickstarter & one thing I think game journalists should do - "[In which I discuss that I like Kickstarter, point out some of the dangers implicit in the model, and urge journalists to publish links to developer's online stores ]"
For Larian's online store, I'm not sure if it got a lot of exposure (outside of their Monkey Tales line of educational games, or on their own forum/site) until the
Divinity Anthology was released. Retail versions of the anthology ordered from Larian have the inside front cover and first page of the Developer’s Journal signed by everyone.
Hatching the Anthology.
