Just finished the first part and it is amazing, art, story, music... I won´t go furtther because I don´t want to spoil the game, anyway I would like to know if other backers feel pleased with it.

I liked it, I was quite pleased with what I got for the money, but the actual gameplay could have been better (more exploration, more independent puzzle solving).

Does anyone know if Double Fine plans to release this on GOG? I've read that after Episode 2 is complete they will release it DRM-Free, but no mention if that will be through GOG or not that I could find. Maybe a backer knows?

I want to play this, but it's not worth it if I have to use Steam.

The latest backer update (which I hope Double Fine won't mind that I share) says that they've taken the DRM-free feedback to heart and are working on releasing a DRM-free version "in the next month or so". I don't know if that will include GOG, but it's a good start.

I think it's unlikely that Broken Age will come to GOG before Act 2 is out. The way I understood this is that they are only working on providing a DRM-free version of Act 1 for the backers, sooner than they had planned. But I could be wrong, of course. Seeing that the older DRM-free games of Double Fine are here, I'd expect Broken Act to turn up here some day, too. The only question is how long you'd have to wait ... :/

(If it's just the DRM-free you're after, you'll definitely be able to buy it from the Humble Store though, as soon as Act 2 is released.)

In any case, you will not need to go through Steam. It will be also be delivered DRM free through Humble when it is complete.

I'm waiting for the full game but it's comforting to know that what there is so far has been well received.

Thanks for the responses. I have such a huge back-catalog that I can be patient for this to appear on GOG. Just wanted to know if it had been announced yet. I suppose there's no reason to think it wont end up here eventually, and most likely sooner rather than later too.

I'm pretty happy with how the first half turned out, all things considered. The puzzles could've been harder, that is my only complaint with the game, but everything else was great. It's genuinely funny and has lots of subtle touches. If I had to choose one word to characterise it, it would be "charming". It exudes charm from every nook and cranny and at times it almost feels like you are in a Miyazaki movie. Almost.

The stories seem separate, but they come together in surprising ways. I'm even now still discovering connections between them. Also, the ending caught me completely off guard.

It's not a good start. Once again, the DRM-free crowd gets treated as second class citizens. They promised this would be DRM free, so excluding non-Steam backers from early access versions is a complete breach of trust. Yes, they do mention that betas will be distributed via Steam, but they only added that point to their FAQ a month after the campaign ended and the money was collected. (Which unfortunately is exemplary for the kind of bait & switch tactics that have become standard MO for most Kickstarter campaigns.)

My singular complaint with the game was the lack of "LOOK". I didn't even mind the puzzles being so easy (been a long long time since I completed a game without a walkthrough), but there not being a "LOOK" really reduces the enjoyment of exploring and having the character personalities built up and reading their cool responses. I had to substitute using random inventory items on everything :D.

There not being a DRM free version ready at the same time did irk me a bit. I hadn't participated in the beta, and initially had planned to wait till they stopped adding updates (there were some updates made to the game even after it was officially released on steam), but then they said something about the DRM free version being released in about a month, after their release was stable (although I think they may have put back the time on that now?).

I'm also a bit sad that while it was a fun game and all, it wasn't an unexpected, genre-defying, "hearkening to the golden age" type game. But that's probably my own fault for building my expectations so high.

Double Fine is a pretty GOG-friendly company so it is highly likely it'll eventually show up here (The Cave aside, but that's only because it was published by Sega, who... I guess aren't so GOG-friendly?).

definitely not. take the megadrive collections, for example, which would have had a perfect home here. it is not even like DRM is an issue, as they are DRM free in DotEmu

i liked it, just a shame we're experiencing it as half a game. Kind of reduces its overall impact... But its good.. i certainly got my moneys worth from the kickstarter.

While they're GOG-friendly, I'm not sure they're very focussed on it. Despite Psychonauts already being on GOG, it took quite a long time for the other games to get here. Could be for all kinds of different reasons, but still. Just saying you might have to be patient, because Steam and Humble seem to be higher on their priority list.
