I was a day 1 buyer for brutal legend on the console. And really enjoyed it until the RTS crap started. I tried 3-4 times and gave up in a controller throwing blaze of fury and hatred for the game.

Recently got the Double Fine bundle which came with Brutal Legend and I’ve been thinking about trying it again.

I hate with an undying passion all things RTS that are not giants: citizen kabuto Because that game wasn’t so ridiculously hard with the RTS.

Do any of you have some cheatfilled tips tricks or glitches i can use to just win the RTS stages... i've been told past the first RTS stage some great single player happens but I cant get passed that stage battle... To date its the worst purchase I’ve ever made in gaming, i even bought Gothic 3 on release AND SpaceSiege so that’s saying something!
The secret to the RTS is DO NOT PLAY AS A COMMANDER
get in the fray, why are you not getting in the fray. Don't micromanage, that way lies DEFEAT.

What you should do is upgrade units though, you upgrade them by using the "use" button on the radial menu. I think I forget.

Summon car. Melt faces, use attacks, YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE ARMY, the rest of the units are there for support, but you do the most of the damage.

I would also take the time to learn the summon wild beasts attack. You can upgrade it all the way to summoning huge elephants with METAL TUSKS!!! and ride one into battle :D.

The way to get this attack is to do the hunting side quest line.

All the RTS bits are quite easy, actually. Just build whatever when you have resources and send it in the general direction of the enemy.

(to be more precise, make sure to capture all the resource generating bits and THEN send it in the general direction of the enemy)

I'm not great at RTS and I managed to finish Brutal Legend by watching out for towers and respawn time of my units.

1) I used the protagonist on the field a lot because he can get rid of some annoying enemies. I usually ran away when it looks like Eddie was about to die until he got better (it doesn't take long).
2) I used basic units mostly. These gals with guitars and swaying guys. Units who demand more resources are also more prone to be killed faster.
3) Special units like soundmen are usually required just for certain part(s) of battle.
4) Try to besiege towers as fast as the situation allows. The enemy usually took it back after a while (too many units at different places), so steady focus on moving forward is the best.
5) When you besige a tower closest to the gate, attack the gate. It will be down in no time.
6) General strategy is to have my units backing my towers and the most gurpling places while Eddie is pushing forward.

And yes, my main tactics was to get it over with as fast as possible to play funnier parts of game again.

EDIT: I didn't use Eddie's special guitar solos too often because they took a time and didn't significantly boost my units.

I hate RTS games 'cos I'm just too thick, but BL was fun and easy, if I could get through it, I would imagine anyone could get through it. I think initially (especially if you dislike RTS games) it seems quite daunting with all the different units, but by maybe an hour or two, it should kinda click into place for you.
As others said, you are the strongest unit. So kill those enemy troups yourself. Face Melter is your friend. You can take out an entire squad of enemy infantry at once without loosing a single one of your guys. Later that is supplemented by summoning wild beasts and the zeppelin drop solo. Also the car with the acid spewing secondary weapon kicks serious butt. And whenever the enemy commander appears make him your first target. Otherwise he will wipe the floor with your units (like yourself, the enemy commanders are also the strongest units in their army).
Okay, here's what you need to know to make the most of the RTS fights.

1) Capture. Capture, Capture, Capture, your first two minutes should be nothing more than capturing the nearest 2-3 geysers to your stage and building units when you can.

2) You are a bad ass, you can defeat almost everything in the game single handedly, if it's by itself. The army is support and what you will use to even out the odds of larger groups of foes, and to actually destroy the opposing buildings.

3) You can fly. Use this to find targets and direct your troops against either armies or weakly defended structures, or get away from your enemies if you're having trouble. If this hasn't been unlocked yet then start with running around in your car.

4) You can still use your guitar, car and powers. If you're having trouble, go into the world and find as many of the songs as you can, and at the very least "Face Melter" and the one that drops an exploding zeppelin on your enemies. The cool down is high on both of these but the former will instantly kill a lot of local ground troops and the latter will half-kill an entire army if used right, essentially wasting the time your opponent spent on raising an army and vastly reducing the difficulty in an area if you're trying to destroy a structure. There's also a lot of different upgrades for your car, axe and guitar, so make it a point to find landmarks, free bondage dragons, listen to the story of metal, make jumps off ramps and try challenges so that you can get upgrades to make your car (Which is like having a shield around yourself that can run enemies over AND attack with flamethrowers, lightning cannons and machine guns) closer to the tank in the "Day of the Dead" remake movie.

5) Upgrades. You can only carry so many units at a time, so where and how you use them count. Start with Headbangers (12), back them up with biker girls (8), that's your basic Melee/Range pair. Get one of the bass healers to join them if you're having issues with health. After you've filled your ranks, upgrade the melee and the range to level 2, and the add to the army as the number rises with whatever you prefer.
I'll right, I’ll give it another shot... do lots of side quests and get some good support spells....

I really want to get thorough these parts, thanks for all the tips!
