I can't edit dosbox.conf files that are initially there when the game is installed. It's not read only protected, but acts as if it is. Whenever I try to save a change, I get an error message saying that I can't make changes to it in notepad, Notepad++, or wordpad.

Any ideas?

Try copying the file to desktop, editing it there, saving it, then copying back to the game folder.

I think it has something to do with administrator privileges.

Close the calling exe, then hexedit it, if necessary.

If you've installed your games to the program files folder you need to run your text editor as administrator or you can't edit the conf files. Mondo84's suggestion should work as well.

This. It's windows stopping you modifying them because they're in program files.

ADDED IN EDIT: Oops, I see someone else has verified, so hopefully mine wasn't needed. Really, those two folks know what they're talking aboutl
