Either CaptFitz is a complete dick or his account got hacked and someone has been asking people on his friends list to login to a bogus Steam site with an obviously incorrect web address.
Just a friendly warning.
Yeah I saw that myself, best change passwords and all that
Just remember what is stated on the very first line of all chat sessions. Then make sure you verified your email address.
I was going to mention that on these forums... but then I forgot. v_v
It reminded me to change my password just to be more secure. I was pleasantly surprised I needed to confirm it with a code they emailed to me first.
When did this happen? I haven't seen Captfitz online today, or maybe I wasn't observant enough.
-edit- Oh, I see "he" was last online 2 hours ago. Scary stuff.

It's a good idea to verify your account:

He's not asking for a password himself. This is essentially what I was sent:
HAHAHA OMG, YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!!!
<link inserted that was something like steampowered.viewprofile.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com>
The page is an exact replica of Steam's current webpage.
If you didn't look at the web address, you wouldn't know something was up.
EDIT: uploaded a screenshot of something else someone got. The wording of this is actually what I think I got, with a similar link. Don't go to it, obviously.

Huh. Good thing I haven't logged into steam for 5 days. :|
Weird stuff.

Seems like it's one of those trojans or viruses similar to those spread on MSN, where people would auto-send something like "Hey Nikki and I had a great time at the party last Saturday, too bad you couldn't make it, check out the photos here http://www.gog.com", except I had no idea who Nikki was. But still, it's scary, especially since it's not hard to click on it unintentionally.

So? Surely people still have the intelligence here to realize that any such links posted in chat is akin to directly asking for your password.
(Not so) common sense people!
And FYI, all real valid community links use the https protocol. And wouldn't have a .com at the end of a profile number...

Gathering from what other people have said, I am willing to believe that many times it is not a trojan or whatever. It is people giving away their password to their steam account because someone promise them to cheat their way in owning more games on Steam for free...
We already have a good example on this site from a certain someone who tried to steal games out of Steam like this.
If you are not one of them, then yes, be very careful what you click on.
there is a hack to temporerly take over an (online)account and send messages to its friend list. but there seems to be no danger otherwise, since that does not enable one to change the password or email adress.
Dammit Cap... The porn is NEVER free!!

And now to use his account to find yours so I can spam your ass.
Cap needs to respond to this thread to explain how he got in this mess, assuming his GOG login wasn't the same as his Steam login :P
