Hey all,

I'm about to purchase 2 or 3 Interplay games and was looking for recommendations. I'm big into RPG, simulation, action rpg, and combos of them. Much prefer fantasy to sci-fi, and the only games I have played from the list are Giants: Citizens Kabuto and Fallout 2 (tho I barely remember it). Any advice? Thanks!
since you like many genres i will just point out the games from the promotion i know and i think stood the test of time and are still not only good, but great:

Descent:
Didnt play 2 or 3, but the first one was something else, you should have a good joystick or a gamepad with two analogue sticks to enjoy it, since you have to navigate in 3D like in no other game. Its action packed and navigating is fun.

Fallout 1+2:
Those games are what i would describe as "true" rpgs. You can do pretty much what you want, but the world isnt wooden like Morrowind is for me for example. There is one quest for example where you have to free some hostages from a gang. Assuming the corresponding skills are high enough you can try to intimidate them, challenge the boss for a fair fight, give them something in return, kill them all, or even become a member. Or you just ignore the quest or whatever you want. Not all quests are THAT detailed, but when a solution makes sense there is a high chance it is there.

Freespace 1+2:
Great games, and if you dont need that much of a cinematic feeling (i am looking at you Wing Commander) they are argueably the best mission based space action games out there. Also there is an easy to install mod so that you can play the games with graphics that look more like todays standard. That doesnt mean the default graphics hurt, its just that the community is great and active, there is even a giant Babylon 5 mod among other things.
If you barely remember it, you should repick up Fallout 2. It's hard to pass up at that price.

Seconded....along with Fallout 1. I someday gotta make an antidote to Jet addiction and save the druggies in FO2...good times. Too bad anything short of MENSA level Intelligence scores would allow it though.
Descent is not a bad game, but it really depends on what type of gaming you like to do. Personally, I hated it because it was so tightly enclosed in mines everywhere, but my brother really loved it. I'll probably get it eventually, but probably not until its on sale again.

If you like RPGs, FO2 ought to be right up your alley.

I've personally got kind of a soft spot for Lionheart, but it's more of a cross between an RPG, Hack 'n' slash and adventure game. But with quite a bit more RPG and adventure than what you'd see in a Diablo clone.
Sacrifice is a very unique 3rd person strategy game and well worth checking out if you're after something a bit different. I also enjoyed Freespace 2 a lot.
I'm picky about my games so keep that in mind with my recommendations:
RPG:
Fallout: I don't recommend 2, some people consider it the best but I consider it to be incomplete compared to the first. With that said you played the second so the gameplay is basically the same. Only difference is this game offers a more cohesive experience which makes the experience more fun.

Simulation:
Freespace 2: This is the best space combat game, period. The plot sets up everything nice and puts you in the shoes of a nobody during a war instead of some hero. Combat itself is typical space-combat stuff except for it is the most refined and rewarding out of the other games.

Make sure you get Freespace 2 Open which makes the game look much better and lets you download fan created missions which are of professional quality.

Action RPG
Sacrifice: This game is actually an Action RPG Strategy game. Hard to describe but it lets you play as a mage who can summon units, control them and use magic in a tug of war type game. Story is pretty good for this type of game and is pretty funny at times. This has a demo you can try too.

Just do yourself a favor and avoid Stonekeep. Others love the game but I can't stand it personally.

Descent is another series that is iffy, the games aren't bad but it has a well known to cause motion sickness (I get it too :S) because of the tight corridors and all the spinning in them.

If you're into RPGs get Fallout 1 and 2. Probably two of the best RPGS ever made.

If you haven't pplayed Fallout 1 you should get that definitely. Not as long as the second one but still a very good game.

Fallout 2 is probably the best pure RPG game I played overall. (I like Planescape: Torment more but that is a very different type of experience because of the heavy focus on story....)
I would like to recommend Fallout. It's absolutely fantastic, but sci-fi.
Also, I recently bought Sacrifice. I haven't had the time to play it much but it INSTANTLY looks like the kind of game the kind of game that baffles me when thinking about how i managed to miss it the first time around.

If your open to space simulators Freespace 2 is one of the best titles around, with some AMAZING mods still very much being developed.
Nice, thanks all I really appreciate the info. I'm going to start with the Fallouts and Sacrifice and then maybe try Freespace.

Good luck...also perhaps consider FO:Tactics as while it isn't like the other two it plays like a fallout with Crusader gameplay and this makes it fun.
