For those of you who like Sim City 2000 and Sim City 4 but hated Sim City 5 always online DRM I have good news for you! An indie developer in germany is making a City building game on par with Sim City! without all the online crap...

It is being written in WebGL and Javascript utilizing HTML5 and node webkit.

Here are the goals of citybound -

[*]It will be a single-player game that works completely offline.
[*]The goal is to simulate one whole, huge region at once - no need for tiny city lots or artificial city interaction dynamics.
[*]It will be affordable and will not rely on DLC.
[*]Alpha and Beta versions will be available for a reduced price.
[*]Moddability will be a priority, not an afterthought.

Planned Core Gameplay Elements:

[*]Zoning, dynamic creation of buildings based on demand
[*]Residential/commercial/industry dynamics, micro-economy
[*]Electricity, water & sewage management
[*]Service buildings, service coverage (health, police, fire, education, ...)
[*]Public transportation
[*]Agriculture

Additional planned features:
[*]Terrain: hills, rivers, lake, ocean
[*]Vegetation
[*]Terraforming
[*]perhaps even dynamical changes (flooding, landslides, ...)
[*]Data maps & graphs
[*]Day/night cycle
[*]Seasonal cycle
[*]Citizen inspection, opinion polls, social media

There is allot more on the website so go on over there and check it out :)

Hey Welcome :)

HeadClot: Hey Welcome :)
:) I got SimCity 2000 when it was on sale not so long ago, haven't played it yet, but seems like a great sandbox-type title to get lost in. The emphasis on the moddability aspect of Citybound sounds particularly interesting.

I had SimCity 2000 back in the day on CD and it is an awesome game that you can get lost in. :)

SimCity 4 has a very active modification community and can be modded fairly easily if I can recall correctly :)

Now I want SimCity 4 on GOG, haha. The 3D-terraforming reminds me of that farming deck in Startopia, which was a lot of fun. Love the pixel art in 2000 though (that's what Citybound seems to be good about as well).

Never played startopia I really need to!
I do not think that he is aiming for the pixel art style. I think that is more over a work in progress art style. However I could be wrong.
I've been looking forward to this game! I hope GOG can get it!
