I liked Civ5. Not as much as IV, but it was still damn good and I played it constantly for a solid month. Looking forward to another month when this comes out.

I had a feeling they'd "have" to put religion back through an expansion.

I loved 4 but was disgusted with 5. Why must every God damn game be dumbed down?

Soon Tetris will be more complex than AAA titles.

It was simplified in some areas but deepened in others, like combat. I wouldn't call it dumbed down or too simple.

If anything Civ V is MORE tactical. The fact stacking no longer exists along with proper city defence means your forced to think tactically using suicide troops if needed etc. Micromanagement is still there in the menus for each city so nothing has really changed there and even border growth has strategic results...

Considering micromanagement is all but removed from the game, I'd say that has changed quite a lot.

Overall I think 4 offers much deeper gameplay, and is a better game as a result.

In my case it's to little to late. Maybe next chrismas for 60% off. But Civ 5 really rubbed me wrong. Sadly.

Just because they made the city management AI actually work doesn't mean they removed micromanagement.

Does the 2nd Expansion brings back the events? Loved them in the second expansion of IV :)

The few times I tried to get into it I got so tired of pandering to city states every other turn, it just completely lost feel to me.

That and city locations didn't really feel that interesting anymore compared to scouring th eland for that perfect location in the other civs :/

I tend to ignore city states until late game unless I need something they have then they get a cash injection :P

Theres still tactical planing for resources especially early game as you work out wheres best for quick cheap expansion

It's interesting to see that they actually release an expansion after all this time. But for me, the period during which they could have kept me interested is long gone. The game is too fundamentally broken to be enjoyable for me without a thorough redesign, and that won't happen. They are still adding stuff on top of the rather boring gameplay instead of fixing the underlying issues.

The only thing that could get me interested again in Civ5 is huge modding projects that would amount to redesigns of the game, but for that we'd need the DLL development kit that's still unreleased (despite the producer saying that it's just around the corner ... last July). That, and a Steam-free "complete" edition.

Always good to have an addition to a turn based strategy game nowadays. They somehow die out. But good old civilization will be the last to stand the test of time. Hehe...

Really interested. What underlaying issues makes it so fundamentally boring to you? I thought for once that the one unit one tile concept is nicely done and the overall happiness and social policies are also interesting. Some things are easier than in Civ 4 and multi player mode is a bit difficult to use, but compared to titles from the 90s, the ones we are dealing here, even the Civ V multi player mode is fully functional.
