A hack and slash hidden gem.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available 50% off today on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the next 24 hours.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing specia. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $2.99 on GOG.com, until Tuesday, March 18, at 10:59AM GMT.
This is a good-looking game. But that grumbling sound I hear may well be all the other games in my backlog, waiting to be played.

Thank you both, I'll think about it :)
The hit detection and general responsiveness is sort of ok for its time, but definitely on the clunky side by modern standards. But the role-playing side is very strong, and the engine is still good enough for the job at the end of the day.

I found myself dying a lot early, but like a lot of old-school games, it levels out some after you get to first opportunity to grind at your leisure.

This is absolutely worth it on sale.
AAAaargh! This one's on my wishlist. Going to have to buy and add it to the backlog.

Damn, this bloody backlog makes me feel like Sisyphus.
I ain't kidding when I say this game got me into isometric rpgs. This was -and still is- my one and only true entry in the genre. Can't say it's a diablo or baldur's gate clone since I have little playing time with both of these.
I spent many hours in it and had a great time with HK. For sure.
No bugs AT ALL; played it on fullscreen.

And nope, I hadn't played isometric rpgs before (adventures, racing, plaformers etc are quite my thing I'd say) and yep, GOG sold me this one when I read it was in "rights limbo" and it was "recovered" by one of our beloved users :P

edit: next in line is Inquisitor, which I tested and also worked flawlessly :)

Yay! I've been waiting for this one to go on sale :) Now I can get rid of my disc version! My old PC games taking waaay too much space on my shelves, so I'm replacing what I can with GOG versions. :)
How does this game compare to Divine Divinity or Baldur's Gate?

Are the controls clunky?

Tarhiel: Wait... there is a sequel to this game?

JudasIscariot: In progress :)
I did not had a clue... awesome!

Hope it will be good. If it lands here, definitely buying :)

It's an aRPG Diablo clone with an above average story. There's really no comparison with the Divine Divinity or Baldur's Gate games. Those are quality and HK is mediocre. You're better off playing Nox, Dungeon Siege, or Titan Quest.
I broke down and bought it. I've been waiting since it was introduced to the catalog, and this promo was to good to resist. :)

I didn't really care for the first dungeon siege. It felt like a turn based rpg that really wanted to be a mouse button masher.

Oh, also those are very useful comparisons to understand the game value, thanks.

Ontopic- I bought enough games already in the Irish sale, so I'll wait for a higher discount, although this game has been in my wishlist for ages. My backlog is starting to gain in size!
This has been made by people from our small country and it's on my wishlist, bought. :) Thanks.
Bought.
