This might suck...

But it might also be awesome...

We'll see when it ships.

Thing is... Ubisoft is putting it out, and I have declared that I will not buy any more Ubisoft games...

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/i_did_not_buy_assassins_creed_ii_for_7

So, we'll see what Ubisoft does with its DRM plans with this title. Are they gonna demand that I submit to their always on Internet connection DRM... Or are they gonna back off that and use some more reasonable approach.

I don't hate DRM absolutely. In fact, as a content creator (not games) I understand the need to protect your IP... but as a consumer, I understand that the protection cannot be draconian. It is simply unethical to sell a product whose protection only attacks your actual paying customer... and Ubisoft has, in my mind, crossed that line.

So, are they ready to be forgiven so I can play this game, or will I be choosing to support some other publisher? I'm pretty sure there'll be no shortage of titles on the PC (and few on Xbox) that I can can get just as interested in. It is really up to Ubisoft and how they choose to approach DRM in the future.

I know AC2's DRM has been patched out... but that doesn't mean Call of Juarez will not take the same approach.

What do you think is going to happen?

Also, I wonder if I should just swear off all new games this summer and just reactivate my EvE account...

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood already came out with a one-time activation at install and they removed the constant connection requirement from most (all?) of those titles, so I see no reason to assume this game will go back to the old always online method.

Website shows only XBox360 / PS3 versions, not for PC - I haven't noticed DRM being really an issue on consoles....

It does show the PC version at the end of the trailer... but Ubisoft hates PC gamers so it is pretty well hidden on the site.
I wish they would've stuck with the Western setting. They were so close to getting it right the first two times, and it's a shame that they're throwing out all that progress just to tell a seemingly-unrelated story.
