Here's a thread to talk about whether XYZ DLC is worth getting.

I'll start:

- Warlock Master of the Arcane (WMA) Armageddon,
- WMA Return of the Elves,
- WMA Master of Artifacts

http://store.steampowered.com/app/203630/

Which one to get? Anyone have all three, and have a candid opinion on any of them? It seems the last one would add the most interesting gameplay, but I don't know.

Also, what's up with fantasy strategy games and bringing elves back? I can think of at least three which do it.

I'd love to know about Armageddon. It looked like it actually might add something great.

I have Master of Artifacts and didn't even notice it, I don't think. It's been a while, but I don't remember really enough changing that it made me love the game any more.

I haven't tried Return of the Elves.

I rarely get DLC if I get a new game. I always feel like I'm getting screwed. I can add a bit to a game for as much as a whole GOG, usually.

That said, I've purchased some Battlefield DLC so I could play with my brother and I've bought large collections (like Dragon Age) that included the DLC.

I for one am fairly anti-DLC. But if people are buying it, then more power to them. I just like to have a total package and play it and not feel screwed or feel like I'm playing in a store (like Dragon Age -- I got it brand spanking new -- characters would talk to you, get you excited, then tell you to go with them, it's just $10. I was irate).

Armageddon: Totally worth it. Introduces a new gameplay mode which is very different from the core one, and several new enemy types. Just be prepared for a quite challenging game mode, and the fact that the AI is ill suited to deal with the new threats, so you'll most likely have to fight the enemy on your own.

Rise of the elves: Worth it. It introduces a new faction which plays quite differently from the 3 from the base game.

Master of Artifacts: The most important part of this DLC was free, so this is one of those that don't add a whole lot to the game. At 0.5€ (current price) it might be worth it though, but it's not worth full price.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about DLC in general. My bad.

Nice! Thanks, just what I wanted to know. So are you saying that the base game lets you acquire artifacts, then let's your units carry them? I was thinking it might be something fun like experimenting with spells and making unique artifacts, but if it's just X+Y will give you Z, then that doesn't sound very interesting.

It's a general thread, talk about whatever you like! Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the mini-review. I think I'll give Armageddon a try and at 74 cents, it probably won't ever be cheaper, so I picked it up. I almost ignored the elves, but it does look interesting. Man, maybe I'm a DLC sucker. :) I picked them both up.

Thanks for your insights!

@ RayRay13000: sure, talk about whatever you like!
It allows you to create your own artifacts. You can add powers based on what spells you have researched, and what powers you pick will decide how expensive your artifact will become. I never delved all that deep into this though, as I found the artifacts to be a bit on the expensive side (at least with my playstyle).

Good to know, thanks for the help!
