Suddenly, someone throws a hat into the ring! Written upon the hat are the names of all these games, which I am hoping to win. Nobody was able to read the list, though, because as soon at the hat landed, it was targeted and destroyed by a group of rogue dashers. "No hats but our hats!" they cried, as the smoke cleared.

Fortunately for me, this was only a story. The hat never really existed. I can reproduce the list at will.

As for that poor soul who stole the "hat" from my "head", and then later launched it through the air towards its untimely end? It was simple misfortune that made the person ignorant of the phrase "throwing one's hat into the ring." They did not realize that it was merely a metaphor, and that entering the contest required neither hat nor ring. Alas!
