This is a pretty clever thing to do in such cases. For some people, just convincing themselves that they can successfully combat their condition is a huge problem in itself, but when you can go ahead and put your depression in a box, it can give you confidence. Doesn't work for everyone, but being determined to get rid of your depression instead of just letting it wreck your life is certainly something that can make you win the battle.
