Big_Boss: So I bought the Devil May Cry HD Collection, because I never owned these games (But I played all three chapter thanks to a friend, on PS2 era), and I started DMC on the default difficulty setting.
But this game...is hard.
I mean, bosses pattern is easy and you can avoid almost all attacks by dodging, but the game put you into hard situation that you can't know about.
For example, just when you beat the Phantom, you are in a corridor.
The phantom appears and attacks you, and if you don't know that you will take for sure damage.
Then you put the tablet into the lion and a shadow appears.
As soon as the FMV ends, it attacks you and you can't avoid this.
If you manage to beat it, you must now fight with Dante's brother, without healing yourself (if you have some healing stuff you can, of course).

The fact is, when I completed it on PS2, I can't remember this game was so difficult.
Maybe I'm getting old.
Yeah I have it to and decided to play it and holy fuck I forgotten this game was hard, I knew Devil May Cry 3 was intense and thought DMC 1 was normal, but shit that fucking Grim Reaper mini boss in the sewers.

EDIT: But the more I played, the better I got and it became more easier now when I master the combos, my tip buy the stinger move and avoid the Throwing the sword skill.

DMC 1-3 have to be played on easy unless you're hardcore :P They don't mess around
I finished dmc3 on hard....It was fun even if it was a bitch to beat. I have never actually played dmc 1. Are you telling me that it's even more difficult?

Also I just finished yellow orbs lol

Big_Boss: From now, I will play only graphic adventur until I will die (and not Sierra ones where you can die) XD

retro_gamer: It's not that we're useless now. :))) But the skill from before is gone. :(((
Don't say that. One of the few ways I can justify how newer games appear to be so easy is that my skills have increased a lot from when I first started playing games. Hell, even the first commandos is not as hard as it used to be when I first played it.

On topic, I only played the first DMC once, but I don't recall it as particularly hard (except for one particular fight against a recurring boss with some extra lightining raining on you). The third one was a bitch, particularly because I refused to use yellow orbs for some reason (I was young and foolish), but I eventually succeded in beating it all the way to heaven and hell. With Dante at least, I think I got stuck with Vergil somewhere around the hard or very hard levels, on the second to last boss. I wasn't able to deal enough ranged damage to the sucker without Dante's missile launcher...

Man those were satisfying times. One of the few games I truly enjoyed on console, it almost made buying a PS2 worth it.

Oh, come on, a girl can beat these games... http://lparchive.org/author/AccountingNightmare
DMC 1, 2 and 3, max difficulty... staring with no upgrades... all secret rooms... yeah...
If you're having trouble, watch her tactics.
DMC is hard/? I remember completing it on the hardest difficulty years ago and iirc it wasnt that bad, was the difficulty upped in the HD version?

No, it's quite the usual. Shadows in DMC1 do require insane mobility, unlike the previous enemies. That how you die most of the times there - the game takes you by surprise. Still, never feels unfair, you always have a chance.

Shame, God Hand never got an upgrade. Although the pixelated look of a classic suits it. HD fetishist girl spanking and gay wrestlers probably would've been too much for ESRB.
A game that's hard to play? Now I'm interested....
I got the new DMC yesterday, its pretty cool, doesnt seem as hard as the earlier games, looks excellent, combat is very fluid..
Well, DMC 4 is a piece of cake too, even on hardest setting.
By the way I just managed to beat the griffon (first time).
And the amazing thing is that I'm not died anymore, making also several secret missions.
The hardest enemy, at the moment, is the shadow for sure, every time I saw one it kick my ass.
So I managed to reach Mundus, but....how the hell I suppose to beat him?
I can't do any damage to him, and he kills me easily even if I try to dodge all the thinkg (and they are MANY) he throws me.

From the LP I gave a link to

Just 24 minutes, after cutting the original 44 minute footage.

I did it (I see the vide just now).
If you hit L1 Dante will fire a dragon, I didn't know about that.
Now I'm on Mission 7, Hard Mode and...is hard.
Because strongest enemies replaced weakest one (ie after you put in the lion heart you must fight a scissor demon now, not a shadow).
I played a lot of Devil May Cry during a brief PS2 obsession period around 2003. I remember it being fun but repetitive and too difficult for my PC gamer self. I think I quit on the fight with the shadow knight dude, but I know I beat the spider.

Anyway, I think I will get the reboot when it hits $20. Try that one out.
