Been rather interested about the third installment of this series, so do I need to play the previous ones to "understand" the game?

Are they good games?
Where can I get one?
Do I need the battle.net account?
wth is battle.net?
Does someone here have a tradeable copy of either one?

I'm such a noob :/
Can't speak for Diablo I, but II is a marvelous game. If you're part of its target audience, that is. It is a game almost entirely about looting and grinding. It does both of these things brilliantly, and has satisfying "clickity clickity" combat and a killer atmosphere to boot. However, if you're looking for a deep story, detailed world interaction, or complex gameplay, look elsewhere.

You do not need a battle.net account to play Diablo II SP. However, you will need one to play online (which feels significantly different than SP, but is its own sort of fun). Getting an account is free, and totally worth it IMO.

I should warn you, though, that the game is notorious for eating up your time, so it might be a bad idea to get it this close to the start of next semester :P
1. Yes.
2. Amazon or Battle.Net.
3. No.
4. Blizzard's answer to Steam (clientless backbone to all of Blizzard's games that have multiplayer).
5. Dunno.
I enjoyed Diablo I. I've heard II is better, but I've not played it. One of the biggest gripes I've heard about I is that the entire game is "click click click click..." Fighting is manual using mouse clicks. I thought II had automatic fighting, but I might be wrong from how jefequeso describes it. I really didn't mind it while I was playing it.

You don't need Battle.net.

You can get both if you can find an old version of the Diablo Battle Chest. The new battle chest does not have the first game. I don't think the first game runs in Windows 7 and I think that's why it is excluded now.

EDIT: The first game needs some tweaking to run in Win 7, from what I see, but that still might be why they exclude it now.

From what I know Battle.net came out in the 90's before Steam.

I, for one, gladly welcome our clickity click click overlords.
In my opinion Diablo 1 is way better than 2. It has that really dark eerie climate. Its really worth to play it.
I was once a Blizzard fanboy and played Diablo, Hellfire and D2 for many hours/years. I prefer Divine Divinity for my hack and slash nowadays.

For a sample of the Diablo "feel" I would suggest picking up Divine Divinity, Sacred Gold or Nox while they are on sale.

The quickest way to get some h&s would be to get Nox and use the "Solo Quest" option on the game menu. Nox is fairly short though and can be difficult at certain points. DD was around 60 hrs for me and SG was around 90 hrs.
So If I loved Dungeon Siege 2 and Titan Quest (somewhat, loot was bad in this one), would Diablo be for me?

Divine Divinity...hmm, I think I have that game. Never played though :/

Definitely.....also OT but update yer story thread. :P

:)
Diablo II is one of the best games ever made for the looting and grinders in all of us.

Despite what others are saying the story line is satisfying and the cinematics top notch even now.

I was talking about Battle.Net 2.0. (should have mentioned that)

Does it work well on Win 7 ?

Yup. You might get some messed up colors, but that is easily fixable.
I enjoyed diablo 1 way more than two because at the time diablo 1 was revolutionary action rpg with that kind of item system/game play (like real time + facing massive mobs) graphics was ahead of its time I think. Diablo 2 didn't have any significant improvement over 1 expect for online and some game play mechanism) Most people that enjoyed diablo 2 a lot seemed to not have played diablo 1.

Overall if you want to experience diablo multiplayer go for 2 single player go for 1.

Don't really need to play either to play d3 as blizzard games always target general masses so should be really easy to get into.
