I noticed on Fever_Discordia's thread that Elite is listed among Tommo games. With more than 1100 votes on the wishlist it is surprising that it didn't yet get a release here. Does anyone know whether Tommo really has the rights?

This question / problem has been solved by Fever_Discordiaimage
Depends on where he got the list from. If its official, then yes Tommo would have the rights to Elite
But the game's (the first Elite versions, not the sequels) are freely available already.

I consider Elite Plus (PC version) the best version, as it has analog joystick support. Very handy with e.g. manual docking.
Well, David Braben probably has some kind of rights over the Elite name as he is making a new Elite game via KS funding.

That said, if Elite did come to GOG it would be kinda essential to have the "Elite Plus" VGA remake from 91'.

Yeah, I must admit that I was surprised to see it on this list:
http://docs.bmcgroup.com/Atari/nysb_1-13-bk-10176_313.pdf (page 75)
too! Along with the original version of Geoff Crammond's 'The Sentinal' too

They are both games originally published by British Telecom's 'Firebird' label
Firebird's was bought by Microprose who's rights, in turn, were split between Atari (or whatever they were called at the time) and
Take 2

The other Firebird published games on that list (Estra, Viking Raiders) are a small selection of their library that were only released on 8-bit machines like C64 and ZX Spectrum so I guess its possible the Tommo rights to Elite and The Sentinel are only to those old 8-bit versions too
Some of their titles like 'Booty' are in 'strikethough' font too - whatever that signifies
Elite Plus was Published by 'Microplay' which was a Microprose label so the rights MAY go with the older version but it would be nicer if 'Elite Plus' was on the list seperately

That's about all I know
Thanks for perusing my list!

*EDIT*
Interestingly the Elite 2 - Frontier series was published by GameTek, some of who's right were bought by Take 2 when they went under
As Microprose founder Sid Meier's new company Friraxis is part of the Take 2 group I might speculate that he would be interested in getting right to Elite games again but that's just speculation...

*EDIT 2*
