Just a FYI. The guy who develops Boxer is a long time GOG member, probably been here from the start.

Well, so far so good, Boxer seems to run the demos just fine, but I have had some issues with some of my other DOS games not looking quite right. Any idea where the graphical settings are for this Boxer app?

Right click the "<game name>.boxer" file wherever it is, chose "show package contents" (I think, too lazy to switch the system over to English), then open the DOSBox Preference.conf file with text pad or any other plain text editor (ie., not Word or Pages). There's your settings.

Alright, thank you! I will try to use that to figure out how to get the games to launch correctly and to look right. EDIT: Got it going correctly, thanks alot again for the direction! Boxer runs some of my older DOSBox games perfectly.

To be honest that's sort of my question. There are certain paradigms like windows and shelves that have gained a certain level of acceptance amongst users. The only thing which could be borrowed is the texture for the background, and I doubt very much that it is.

If you ask me, that site looks a lot better than GOG. :p

Is this on your G5? What are its specs? Which version of Boxer did you use? I ask because as I mentioned before I tried it on a G5 and Boxer ran the games very choppily, even the sample games that came with it.

EDIT: My Kings Quest games run flawlessly after tweaking the DosBox.conf. I tried Daggerfall, and it runs pretty good, small amount of stutter, but honestly I have never seen that game run smooth anyway.

Hi all, I'm the developer of Boxer.
Firstly: Boxer’s shelf appearance was inspired by GOG’s, Delicious Library's, that of iBooks and Classics on iOS, you name it - as others have pointed out, it’s an extremely common UI cliché in the Mac world.
All artwork in Boxer is created by myself or acknowledged contributors*; nothing, besides inspiration, has been taken from GOG or any other source. Boxer’s bundled sample games are all freeware, and Boxer’s game cover-art icons are generated from cover-art images you drop on it, freely available from various sources online like Mobygames. (Incidentally: while the Boxer website doesn't feature any, you may see GOG game icons in screenshots of other people’s DOS games folders. These are from Boxer automatically detecting and adopting the icon when importing a GOG game folder.)
Secondly: Boxer’s goal is zero configuration so if you’re needing to hit up the DOSBox Preferences.conf file to get a DOS game working in Boxer, then Boxer’s dropping the ball with that game and I'm eager to take care of it. Please get in touch with me via the Boxer website and let me know which games you needed custom settings for and what custom settings you needed, so that Boxer can auto-configure those automatically in future.
I should note though that if you need to tweak game speed, mouse sensitivity and other common settings, then this can be done from the Inspector panel while playing: you can bring this up by pressing Cmd-I, clicking on the magnifying-glass icon in the statusbar, or from the application menus.
EDIT: Boxer is based on DOSBox, which performs best on Intel Macs and is not optimised very well for PowerPCs. If a game runs worse in Boxer than it did in DOSBox, then this may be because Boxer defaults to a higher emulated CPU speed.
Lowering the speed (or the framerate) a notch should make the game work just fine on a G5 without needing any config-file hackery, and I'll look at tweaking Boxer’s defaults to run better on PowerPCs out-of-the-box.
* EDIT 2: Ah wait, not quite all created by myself: Boxer uses an alternative DOSBox logo created by Robert Hagenström, which is used with his permission.
