As its seems the new version of DOSbox (0.74) isn't recognized. If I manually pick the install folder of my DOSbox version it just says that my version is too old or not found and doesn't let me proceed - and that sucks.
Any ideas?

Arkose: Older GOG installers--including Duke Nukem 3D's--are hard-coded to look for 0.72 and only 0.72, and will not accept newer versions. Changing the install locations and messing with UAC and whatnot will not rectify this. I don't know whether GOG has corrected this for releases using 0.73 (I don't own any of those).

Nah, it's the same with Masters of Magic and Master of Orion. I just try now installing DOSbox to another folder...

TParis: Yeah, just dump them straight in, confirming replacement when prompted. The start menu shortcuts and everything else will work just like before as if nothing had happened.

Arkose: I wouldnt recommand playing duke3d with dosbox, when you can play it with a supirior port
But i hope gog will upgrade to dosbox 0.74 soon as there are lots of bugs fixed and its even a little faster.

As I said I usually play DN3D with eduke32 but that's not the topic here.
I have tried a different folder for DOSbox now with Master of Magic:
C:\dosbox\
Still the same problem. The installer doesn't recognize it. Meh. I hope I get a reply from GOG support very soon. What's the point of having an option to pick an existing DOSbox installation if no newer version is supported?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not raging about this as this isn't much of a big deal. It just would be nice to have this issue fixed.

GOG support staff is probably already off from work so there probably won't be reply till monday. And yes, it seems installer issue. Did not work for me either.
Still no response :(
Up we goooo...!
Anyway, I have the same problem and I'm pretty annoyed by it. It's not a very big deal but I'd like it fixed anyway. Oh, and I'm using Windows XP and DosBox 0.74.
So here we go, attention to this topic again!
Honestly, I doubt we'll see a fix for this any time soon, since it would involve (at the least) re-building the installers for all the DOS-games.

One workaround for the time being is to install it as-is and then dump the 0.74 files on top, or point it to a central 0.72 installation and then upgrade that to 0.74 once you've installed all the DOS games you're wanting to run. Either method will result in the shortcuts still pointing to the correct locations which isn't the case if you manually move the game into your 0.74 folder.
I know there are workarounds like that, I read the thread. I just don't like doing that, I've had some terrible experience with dumping newer files over older ones and Windows going crazy with the program's registry settings. I'd rather never do it again. Besides, it's a pretty big hassle, pretty inconvenient.
But thanks anyway. Also, I sent a message to GOG.com to notify them that the problem still exists and someone has noticed it and is annoyed by it.
Is this ever going to work? The current installers do not even work with the latest version of Dosbox even though they auto-detect its folder.

Temporarily replace your Dosbox.exe with a 0.72 version during installation. Revert it back to the 0.74 DOSBox .EXE and it'll be fine.
Thanks. They should still update their installers though.
Just for reference, because this post comes up op top in google.

the canonial 0.72 download is this:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/files/dosbox/0.72/DOSBox0.72-win32-installer.exe/download

You can open the installer.exe with an good archive manager (Such as 7-zip), and extract the 0.72 dosbox.exe from the installer.
