Hey all,
Started to download all my GOG games a fair while back so i can archive them (test most install run on my system first).
Do others download their games when they feel like playing their copies? Or do you download them as you buy them?. I only have around 180 games but finding its taking a longtime to get them all (taking into consideration my monthly quota lol).
Is there a reason to keep the version 1 installers and older mini patches at all?.
- I always download my games after the purchase or activation, here and elsewhere, to backup on DVDs. You never know... (looking at Groupees right now -_-)

- There's no real advantage in replacing v1 GOG installers for v2, if the games haven't been updated (same versions).

I do the same as Azrael360. As soon as I buy a game (or bundle), I DL everything: manuals, extras, game files. I archive them on a separate internal HDD as well as on an external HDD. I tend to install many of them as well (on yet another separate drive).
Sometimes I download them right away and sometimes I wait a little while. It just depends.

I prefer the 1.x versions because I like the desktop icons a lot better than the ugly round ones. :P Other than that there's not much difference. They've probably updated the DosBox version used with the DOS games. They've added community patches or their own little fixes on some of them, but I think that's a small %. Plus they've added languages, but if you're using English, then that doesn't matter.

I download them right away. For archiving purposes but it's also easier to just start playing when I feel like it without logging in to GOG etc..
I archive all the installers. About the only thing I don't keep are the zip files for the extras.
I dl all that GOG allows me to

I'm quite envious you only have to deal with downloading 180. It's gonna be a total b#@$ when I get around to downloading and archiving my gog collection. It's almost at 600. It would probably take about a year to download everything =P I'm fairly certain I too have a cap limit from my ISP. In the meantime yeah there is only a handful that ive actually downloaded from GoG. My attention span varies quite a bit =/

In hindsight I probably should have done what most do, by downloading right after buying so it wouldn't be such a burden later on.
I download almost immediately after buying them and I also extract all the zip files from the extras, because I hate having to open a zip file just to listen to a fricking song. Then, I back them up on an external HD. As much good as a backup service is, I still feel far more comfortable backing them up myself.

I download them all as I play them or when I have about 2 full shelves, whichever comes first (nowadays, mostly as I play them as I have a lot of games).

Basically, when I download a game to play it, I also download all undownloaded games that appear before it on my shelf.

I tend to lag behind somewhat on updates and frequently have 30+ updated games to download.

As I have 125 GB usage limit per month, managing downloads is somewhat of a headache as I usually download updates shortly before my usage limit resets, but forget some months and my cheap skate internet provider doesn't let unsused monthly allowance cumulate at all.

For backup, I have external hard drives (no redundant copy, GOG is my redundant copy right now). Should GOG close down (heaven forbid), I'll get more external disks and a redundant copy of each game.

Download them usually right after purchase. Also after seeing people say before they got corrupted downloads from the downloader, I set it to use only one thread to avoid splitting the file up. Maybe overly paranoid, but they have all checked out OK when I tested them so far.
I've burned them all to CD or DVD after testing them to ensure that they work. Put nice labels and the DVD covers on them as well.

In cases where the games are updated, I keep the patches or the updated installers on an external drive.
I used to have them all backed up but my external HDD became too small to really do so. I need to get a new one soon, so I can return to backing up all my game files.
I archive them. Transferring the data from a hard drive is much faster than downloading it off the net; so if I want to play a game on a whim I can, I don't have to wait hours for the data to finish downloading.
I have 225 games and I downloaded them right after purchase. I have a decent connection (cable, 1,2 MB/s, no limits) but if I would have to download my entire collection it would be a real pain.

Oh, yes - I backup my files on 2 HDD and 1 of them is stored outside my home.
