I hate to have my computer infected. I hate to be pushed around, forced to go on-line, forced to have an account, ripped of LAN feature.

So I boycotted Steam and games like Starcraft 2, Assassins Creed 2 and other Ubisoft titles.
I bought Spore and it become my most awful purchase in years, disappointing game with stupid DRM.

I tolerated The sims 3 and it's expansions because retail DVD's don't have DRM and you also have access to the game in digital distribution with DRM via EADM.

Starcraft 2 lack of LAN and forced login makes it worth it less than 10$ for me, so I'll buy it for no more than that.

I bought NWN2 since I came know that DRM was removed from it. Same with the Witcher. I bought prince of persia 2008 because it was released with no DRM.

In short, I despise DRM practices and feel that they are restricting us as customers so I avoid games with DRM.

I find myself playing more console games because they are less annoying to deal with.

lukipela: A lack of LAN is not DRM.
No, but requiring you to go online every X days or the offline mode won't work is.

A lack of LAN is a sign for lacking functionality (since it is not so difficult to put it in) and minimizes the value at least for those who make LAN parties.

However there might be modes that can substitute LAN, but then these modes try to leave control in the hands of the publishers. It's kind of "soft, indirect DRM".

E.g. updating often is also not strictly DRM, but Steam advertises the possibility to do so as kind of an anti pirate measure when advertising there system to publishers.

lukipela: And be truthful, did you use LAN in SC1 for anything other than playing cracked copies?
Starcraft had a spawn installation just for that, also we used to make lan parties at home no need for internet connection or to rely on their servers.

lukipela: Thank you for no answering my question at all.

SC1 had a spawn installation just for that. However, everyone just used it and a workaround to play online on bnet.
How didn't he answer your question? Sounds to me like you called him a liar. Spawning does allow one to join a game on battle.net and through LAN as long as the player with the original serial key is part of the game (or hosting in the case of LAN).

lukipela: Sounds to me like you didnt read the fucking question and are just wanting to circle jerk about how evil it is to not have LAN in SC2.
Okay. Whatever. When your ready to stop acting like a child, come back and try that again.

You accused him of cracking starcraft 1 copies and he answered you on how BLizzard allowed for LAN with one copy.
