I like how it quoted two Paul Verhoeven films in the span of two levels.
"Remember when I said I was going to kill you last? I lied."
Laughed my ass off!

Vagabond: The demo was actually horrible.

hedwards: That's your opinion, I personally thought it was awesome. I haven't been so giddy since that time I went to see Indiana Jones in the theater, you know that crystal skull one that all the snobs hated.

There's definitely room for opinions on the matter, I just question whether the people who played the demo and hated it really got what the original games were all about in the first place. There's even more humor in this one than in the previous outings, and the mechanics themselves like that sweet truck seem to work fairly well.

The comment by Duke about the gas mileage of his bad ass monster truck was awesome.
Good words, pal....QFT.

Well for me the DN3D game (as the originals were different) was a fun action packed FPS with a charismatic (not sure if "charismatic" is really the best word here...) character who, from time to time, said a killer one liner... but what personally I got in the demo was an anemic shooter with a rather boring action with few enemies running one by one in a straight line toward me and, even if it still has the same charismatic character, which is a good thing, this time he was repeating the same three or four one liner over and over again.

Humor was a part of DN3D... but the FPS side of thing was another important part, what I didn't liked about the demo wasn't the "humor" part, even thought it seemed a little forced, but it was the rest. And yes I know what an old school FPS is and no it's not what I saw in the demo.
this is just like quake 4 , just has the game series name and story but does not have the same taste as the other games in the series nor its made by the original developers.
nobody is saying the game demo is outright bad, its just average which is not expected for such a legend as duke, watch the serious sam 3 videos and come back to this thread
I just watched the whole demo being played on YouTube. Looks exactly like some other company trying to make a Duke Nukem game and using all of its licensed goods but failing to nail the charm. People keep arguing in its defense that "this is an old school shooter--therefore it won't appeal as much to modern gamers." Actually, it's not. Instead of health packs, which worked much better for Duke back then, It has regenerative health, and only two weapons can be picked up at a time. It felt like Halo wearing a Duke suit.

Also, the graphics suck. Duke 3D was state of the art back then. Couldn't even get it to run on my PC at the time.

I predict around a 7.5 in reviews. Glad I didn't pre-order.

It was actually made by Triptych and 3DR mosdtly, not some other company.

I also agree about the health but from what i've heard the ego system has been tailored back a bit so it's more challenging, and you can gain ego back in other ways like shooting enemies/etc.

Also the two weapon limit is tough but as I said earlier it makes it more challenging IMO, and the weapons are plentiful in-game so just swap them as needed as you come across them I guess.

As for graphics, what did you expect? It was made the last time around 06-07......and most Duke fans will care not about graphics mainly but storyline.

Storyline? Really? I think you've got the wrong game series.

Here was the story in Duke 3D:

"Aliens have kidnapped our babes. They must die."

That's pretty much it.
Just watched the demo on Youtube, although it took me a few tries to find one that wasn't absolutely smothered by some 14-year-old's inane halfwit gibbering.

It looks okay.

I probably shouldn't go on at length about my specific impressions (even though those impressions are very, very clear) since I haven't actually played it myself, but suffice to say that while I could probably have some fun with it, it doesn't look like the game I would have wanted. My DNF hype-o-meter dropped from a 9 out of 10 to about a 2 as soon as Gearbox first unveiled the game to the press, and watching the demo doesn't do much to change that.

I just watched it too. What was the point of physics for the cart and having to remove the barrels to push the cart up an incline when Duke can just run around shooting while lugging a gas can around with him like it's nothing?

I'll probably skip the demo afetr seeing it. So will Duke be Brian Wilson's Smile or Guns n Roses Chinese Democracy? Two albums that took an eternity to complete like Duke. One is awesome, the other is so-so respectively. Which will Duke be?

Chinese Democracy, inevitably. No Mighty Boot? Only 2 weapons at a time? WTF.
So many small nitpicks and people complaining it's not what they wanted/expected it to be....that's hype for you, people.
I liked it. Although, I will say, I was a little disappointed there was no mighty foot, but at least there was a reference to it, so I guess I'm good there. So glad I got to play it. So what's the new vaporware game now?

From my thread asking about it on the other forums it seems many say HL 2: EP 3
high rated
The two weapon system is absolute balls.

One of the fun things about DN3D were the zany weapons and the fact that you could carry them all with you for variation and laughs. The two weapon system does not suit the game.

Duke is supposed to be over the top, sci fi, misogynistic, popcorn action gaming. Why incorporate something done by previous developers to eschew a sense of realism?

Just seems they slapped together bits and pieces, some under cooked and others over done. The demo was lacklustre, and extremely boring. As far as hype spoiling it for me, I for one didn't follow any of the hype. Duke Nukem Forever was dead to me a long time ago, wish it had been left that way.
