predcon: And of course everyone would be complaining if Duke could pick up EVERY weapon he came across. "It's not logical! It's not realistic!". *sigh*
Who the hell would be saying this? This is a nonsense rebuttal to a complaint nobody ever had. Serious Sam and Painkiller let you carry every weapon in the game and they've never been attacked for it.

They also didn't have the same kind of marketing push or cultural penetration behind them. They were also pre-CoD4.

ONLY if everything else in DNF was realistic. In other words people only want realistic weapon limits on games that try to be realistic like Arma2 and what not.
Complainers gonna complain...et al.

I've never seen anyone complain about having more than two guns at once. Ever.

I've never heard of anybody complaining about having only two guns before now. Well, I did hear about some Shattered Horizon players disliking a patch or something that added more guns. When there was only one gun, but I think that's a different thing altogether.
tbh though on my first duke 3d run i dont recall using more than 3 weapons [pistol, shotgun, rpg] the other weapons ran out of ammo so fast it was not that important

I'll have to see how it plays out in DNF, but I remember all the games I played back in the day were like that. Wolfenstein was the exception. But mainly because there was one type of ammo and a total of like 4 weapons.

I remember playing most of Doom using the shotgun, except for short spurts with the chainsaw or something big for a few particular monsters.

The only games I recall where you could carry all weapons and hold sufficient ammo for all of them were death match focused maps with regenerating items.

People were complaining about that even before the demo was released IIRC. I haven't played the game so I don't personally know how much of an issue it is, but people tend to forget that in the past the ammo was limited or heavily biased towards lower power weapons which made it logistically less helpful to get to carry all the weapons around.

When I play Duke3D, I keep running out of pistol and shotgun ammo and end up having to use the big guns, which are usually at full ammo by that point. Hence I need to be able to carry everything to live (if there was enough pistol & shotgun ammo to use only those, it'd be boring).

Sort of weapon related: I loved how you could kick almost anytime you wanted without it being a long "this is so coool, look at it" animation in Duke3D.

It's been too long since I played Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, or Quake (I/II) and can't remember how it went with those, at all.

With modern games, I get the feeling the makers want you to carry a sniper rifle everywhere and just punch everyone who gets too close to aim at easily. Melee weapons/ fists of fury deal more damage than a gun the size of a man, it feels silly occasionally.
This game is fucking awful.

Also, GameRager, you are really annoying. Considering you've been trying to redeem yourself after trolling and receiving negative reputation because of it, you're really taking the wrong route by arguing with everyone about how much this game clearly sucks. I'm not sure who could enjoy a game like Duke Nukem Forever; certainly not anyone who played Duke 3D, or even Duke 1 and 2 when they were new. You're either just constantly jonesing for an argument, or you have no taste whatsoever. Maybe both.

Basically in DNF, it's ripper and railgun and you are the king of the world, the railgun in particular is ultra powerful and can kill almost anything in one or two shots (and it has a sniper scope so you kill them before they managed to understand how to walk around obstacle to get you), you just need RPG/Devastator for boss battle (because they are mandatory), you can safely ignore other weapons except if you run out of ammo for the two you are carrying.

Personally I think that having more than two weapons would have helped making the game a little more fun, here you have to carry the "useful" weapons, or the ones you know you will find plenty of ammo for and who works for all the enemies type, as a result you tend to drop rapidly the more "unusual" weapons, like for example the freeze or shirking ray or those with limited range. Without this artificial limit you would have had more occasion to use them.

To me one of the thing I like Duke3D for is that I used almost all of his weapons. It was fun for me to change them often (mostly for running out of ammo) and take enemies out differently each time.
I definitely used almost all of my weapons in Duke 3D. I rarely bothered with the freeze cannon or the tripmines, but I made heavy use of the others. Different enemies and situations warranted different tactics.
It's a great Game!
It's the most mediocre game I've ever played. It met my expectations. I have a DNF muscle shirt. I'm satisfied.
