Garugo: Also, let's not forget what I already mentioned, I waited for the dlc on New Vegas to go on sale before purchasing. Let's compare how the prices for the two games went, shall we?

New Vegas upon release was full-price, couple of months later it dropped to $20. Does that mean it's bad? I personally think it's better than Fallout 3, so it's not about how good or bad a game is.
DNF did basically the same thing, released at full-price only to drop to $20 shortly thereafter. (Meanwhile, games like CoD and Silent Hill Homecoming are still full-price after a couple of years even though they should have dropped in price by now.)
Are you sure that NV dropped in price a couple of months after release? I remember buying it the first time D2D had a discount on it and it was still full price and only 2 DLC were out. NV came out last year and has had plenty of DLC released and an ultimate edition announced so it was expected to drop in price. DNF came out this year and only has 2 DLC out.

Hmm, true I probably got my information a bit mixed up, but I didn't follow its price after getting it for basically a quarter from Gamestop back in February. (actually, looking at its release date, it was about 3-4 months before it dropped to $20) But still, I don't remember how long it took FO3 to drop, but I think it was longer than 3-4 months.

Also, realize New Vegas dropped to $20 long before the announcement of the Ultimate Edition. (it was expected even back upon its release because it's a Bethesda game, but there was nothing official at that point)
I bought it, paid the retail price ($50). The game itself was quite short but for me it's still fun. But i'm in two minds whether to get this or not. $10 for single player DLC which i think should be free of charge in the first place.

Well if you want it get it if not then don't. Remember though that every dime goes towards a possible better Duke game(some like DNF and some don't, but remember Randy had to release it as part of his contract before he could make any new Duke games.)

I want, maybe wait for Xmas sale. But first i'm interested about the gameplay length.
I'll wait for the final version with all DLC included. When on sale, of course.

It is not a must-play game for me and the demo was nothing spectacular, so I am not willing to spen more money than absolutely neccessary.
If I did not like FPSs, I would not bother myself with DNF at all.

StingingVelvet: Out now on Steam. $10. No word on length yet, but I can report back.

I actually liked DNF and defended it a good bit when it came out, so I am looking forward to playing this. Any other fans?
I just picked up DNF during the black friday sale (the bad reviews spooked me). The shooting is kind of mediocre but it was great to be playing Duke again.

I'll get the DLC at some point but I just lost my main monitor last night so that may wait a little while. :(
I haven't played the game, but I'd be interested to see how the DLC compares to main game since (at least I believe) this is actually fully developed by Gearbox.
I just bought the retail PC DVD of DNF on clearance at target for $10.

If I had played this game in the earlt to mid 2000s, I'd have been far more impressed. It is quite mediocre.

Unfortunately, not even the anachronistic macho humor saves it because it is so poorly written. It just feels forced, and self-consciously ironic. It's tedious.

When Gearbox acquired the IP, they may have been better off just scrapping the work that had been done and starting out from scratch. The Duke IP holds its value... but 3D Realms spent 12 years wasting time instead of developing a game.

And that makes the DLC interesting to me. It might not suck.

Why?
I'm getting the new DLC sooner or later. 7,99€ really isn't that much, in my opinion. I remember back in the mid-nineties when PC games could cost around nine or ten times as much...

I got the first DLC for free as a First Access Club member. I'm looking more forward to this one with its SP campaign and Dr. Proton's return. I think he must have been one of the very first bosses I ever went up against when I entered PC gaming around 20 years ago.

As for DNF, I pretty much enjoy it. I think it carries some of the "Duke spirit" with it. Given its development history I really didn't expect much when it was released, and I didn't see any reason to hesitate when I pre-ordered it this spring. I've played Duke Nukem games on and off since the early nineties, the first game being one of my platform favourites and Duke3D one of my favourite FPS games.

I can certainly agree that DNF has its flaws. The playability could perhaps have been better and more like Duke3D. I feel that the ability to explore maps thoroughly and pick your own ways is important in an FPS. DNF gives me a bit of a "rail shooter" feeling now and then. Too many scripted events and predictable situations involving waves of enemies etc. I wish it was more dynamic and more influenced by the player's actions. The replayability value of the original SP campaign suffers a bit, in my opinion. I don't expect much more from the new SP campaign, but I'm still confident I'll enjoy it a lot.

Thanks to Frontovika, now i have the chance to play this DLC. From first 15 - 20 minutes, i gotta say it's much faster and action-packed that original campaign.
Apparently the new DLC is just old levels that were cut from the game.

what's your opinion on this?

Some in that thread say the content isn't cut content so I dunno what to believe. If it was cut content then what area was it cut from?

heh, that they usually cut stuff for a reason. It might have gotten cut because of developers not getting enough time to polish them off, but ... I'm not listening to that argument with this game :D
