Yes and no on the karma thing. Yes that it may very well bite her in the ass, but no because she'll just go right back onto the dole of working taxpayers.
That said, since half the million dollar windfall is going to taxes, doesn't that sort of support the notion of paying her fair share into the system she'd be taking money back out of? Can't believe I'm saying that, but that's how the numbers work out.
Hopefully she'll get some sound financial advice soon and the discussion becomes academic.
