This is an interesting new game I am enjoying right now.

The premise is as follows - you are a volunteer rover pilot remote rover on a newly discovered planet. You job is to explore a certain island of it and tag interesting parts for research. Sounds maybe a bit boring, but I find it engulfing. Attached is a picture I took earlier this evening, and the plants on it now being analysed

Now, one thing is that this is going in real time, so if you can imagine the speed of the mars rovers... my rover is moving slowly into position down the ridge and the next picture will be taken in 2 1/2 hour, with the subsequent one in 6 hours.

The game is completely browser based, and it includes things blog posts by the researches being written about the discoveries you make.

This is much more interesting than I make it sound like, and it is still in the beta stages. If you want to try to be a beta rover pilot, you can check it out here - https://extrasolar.com/. The only thing required is a valid email address.

Sounds interesting, I dig it. But it seems you need an invitation to play in closed beta stage.

I subscribed to the mailing list to know when it will be open. Thanks for the tip.

Time sink.

If this is done in real time I think I will pass, I get little enough done as it is.
Not really 100% sure what the game looks like or how it plays but I'm a bit interested so I signed up.

no, It was me being a dick and pointing out the typo
My rover have traveled 234.4 meters now :)
My first rover unfortunate got stuck in some sand and I have lost contact with it. I am sending out a second rover to see if it can be retrieved, or just to see why it is no longer responding.

Between my rovers I have now traveled 447.2 meters, I have taken 16 pictures and managed to identify 5 new aliens plants (we think they are plants).

Attached is picture taken at 22.00 GMT this afternoon.

I like this :)

you may want to check your spam filter.

Nothing going to spoil anything, but the invite may come from an unexpected source. Trust no one!

I have several times over. :/

I saw on the homepage that some people can invite others? No way you can send out invites?
