Does anyone else here use Famitracker? I've been messing around in it recently doing covers of music from games trying to get a bit more used to it (this is my first tracker).

This is my (VRC6) attempt at the Brinstar theme from the original Metroid: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/992948/famitracker/brinstar.ftm
I have it, but I can't really use it for the life of me.
The remix sounds great, though. Maybe except for that knocking-like noise.

Do you have anything you could post?

Also, I'm not sure which noise you mean but I guess you probably mean one of the drums. Yeah, I haven't got the hang of using the DPCM channel yet (it's the one that can play back very low quality samples).

Nope, nothing to post. Not even that great at Mario Paint either.
Been trying to figure it out, but haven't even looked up a manual or tutorials.

I plan to make an excellent album with it someday.

The thing I had the most trouble understanding was the weird way the tempo works. Because the NES can only make changes (note/volume) 60 times a second (FPS if you like) you're quite limited in the range of tempos you can get.

What you're supposed to do is leave the 'tempo' setting at 150 and adjust the 'speed' setting. When the tempo is 150, the speed setting corresponds to how many 'frames' per row of the tracker. You can get other tempos, but they result in the rows being different lengths (instead of being 5 or 6 it might alternate between 5 and 6 as remainders get carried over).

It's a bit brain melty at first...

The nature of the tracker beast, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, I imagine Amiga trackers might have been subject to such limitations as well. Maybe modern trackers aren't limited but I'm just speculating.

I started doing a "de-make" of Secret of Mana's credits theme and ended up using a custom engine speed of 54Hz to get the right tempo. You have to change the tempo setting to something other than 150 though.

(150/60)*54=135
