This thread almost feels as if a company was doing research on people who don't even know they are participating in a survey. :P
For me, 2012 was the year for online Arcade-esque games. Sure, I also played some Mystery Manor type games, but those are/were always too lame to be considered "awesome", more like a nightmare that you live thru (but you might get some ideas for better games from them, yawn).

Anywayz, my list (which is all Flash games found on zombiegames.net):

#03: Road of the Dead
A driving game where you drive over zombies and army men trying to flee a city.
Wicked driving and some great voice work.

#02: Tequila Zombies 2
A game so annoying, that you simple MUST complete it. If this had been in an
arcade in 1987, that'd be like $10 a sitting for me. Some great cartoon artwork
there.

#01: Zombie Trailer Park
This game could go on for hours and hours and I wouldn't mind. If they made
a CD of 80 different trailer park settings, I'd buy that CD. Graphics/Artwork are
really great, music loops are fitting and add to the game.

That's it...
Far Cry 3 - PC, GreenManGaming, FPS
Outcast - PC, GOG, Action Adventure
Halo 4 - Xbox 360, Sainsbury's website (pre order), FPS
For best company I honestly don't know so because of how they did the PC port of AW and making American Nightmare I am going to say Remedy

Vendayn: ...
1.) What are your favorite game(s) you bought this year?
2.) Were they for PC, console or a mix of both?
3.) What genre were they in? (strategy, rpg, mmo...etc...)
4.) What do you think was the best game company this year?
5.) If bought digital, what store did you buy from most (GOG, steam, amazon...etc)
...
1.) If I exclude the games that I bought but already have or have already played thoroughly before, then (out of what I bought AND already played) Arcanum, Moto Racer 2 and SpaceChem.
2.) They are all PC titles.
3.) Genres were (in same order) RPG, Racing and Puzzle.
4.) I do not follow new releases.
5.) I bought outrageously lot (60 games or game packs) at GOG, 2 games (Arcanum & Goblins 4) at Amazon.de and 1 bundle (Total Elimination) at eBay.co.uk.

I'll do 3 of them.
-What are your favorite game(s) you bought this year?
Dark Souls, Darksiders (why did I not get this one sooner?), and Guild Wars 2.

-Were they for PC, console or a mix of both?
I don't own a console.

-What genre were they in? (strategy, rpg, mmo...etc...)
Action RPG, Action Adventure, and Open World Co-op RPG.

-What do you think was the best game company this year?
From Software, the petition that came out had a ridiculous amount of traction behind it and it would have been easy to just say no and move on. Instead they did their best to get the game running on PC and added some new content at a lower price point while straight up admitting that they did the best they could and it probably wouldn't be up to our standard.

That last part really took some balls to admit and I really appreciate honesty for a change instead of bullshit PR speak.

-If bought digital, what store did you buy from most (GOG, steam, amazon...etc)
Probably Steam because I tend to buy my stuff really cheap a majority of the time.
So far, Fary Cry 2.
best game i bought this year: Conquest of Elysium 3 (PC / strategy)

best game company: Illwinter Game Design

bought most stuff from: GOG.com
Hmm, lets see. I'll have to refer to my "finished in 2012" list for this. Some of these are quite short games. And yes, I have trouble picking just a few.

Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb DLC - arcade roguelike (steam)
Blackwell Deception - adventure (steam)
PISS - adventure (summerbatch bundle)
Hector: Badge of Carnage - adventure (steam)
Metal Dead - adventure (bundle4dead bundle)
Shadow Warrior - FPS (gog)
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter - FPS (indieroyale bundle)
The Shivah - adventure (indieroyale bundle)
Unepic - metroidvania/rpg (indieroyale bundle)
Project: Black Sun - metroidvania (indiefort bundle)
Major Mayhem - whackamole shooter (greenlight bundle)
Gunman Clive - platformer (greenlight bundle)
Barely Floating - adventure (summerbatch bundle)
Bunny Must Die - Chelsea and the Seven Devils - metroidvania (indieroyale bundle)
Resonance - adventure (gog)

This past year, I bought mostly from various indie bundles. So all Digital, all PC.

And as you can tell from the above list, I've been on a point&click adventuring streak.

Fable and Flat Out, my friend keeps telling me I should be in love with Hotline Miami, It's OK
-What are your favorite game(s) you bought this year?
Most definitely Resonance and The Cat Lady

-Were they for PC, console or a mix of both?
PC

-What genre were they in? (strategy, rpg, mmo...etc...)
Both are classic adventures - one point-and-click, one keyboard controlled.

-What do you think was the best game company this year?
In both cases - absolutely.

-If bought digital, what store did you buy from most (GOG, steam, amazon...etc)
Resonance on GOG, The Cat Lady on dev's website (and I ordered a hard copy later).
