That bit got turned into a running gag. I think there's some passing reference to that war buried somewhere in (almost?) every GTA released after 3.

The Australian-American War page on the GTA wikia doesn't have yet info about it being referenced in GTA V.

The-Business: The Australian-American War page on the GTA wikia doesn't have yet info about it being referenced in GTA V.
