Whoa... Are you reading a long version?

Hey, big fan of Dostoievski here! But I did not read this one, is it as good as the classics? The title is mysterious...

My list:

Crime and Punishment - Dostoievski
Man's Fate - Malraux
Solaris - Stanislas Lem
Ashes, ashes - Barjavel

K.Dick, Suskind, King, DooM novels, Nothomb, Boris Vian, etc, etc... and I certainly have forgotten half of the more importants as usual =)


Edit: Kafka is the perfect exemple of one of those... along with Tolkien ang many others...

Yup. The printing I have is a boxed set with the novel split into four volumes. It may be really long for a single novel, but its not actually that big of a deal if you ask me. Many novels are really just parts of a bigger series. If you look at it like that, ROTK is probably a good bit shorter than something like Song of Ice and Fire.

Yes, it's a very good book. It's a bit different than the classics, being shorter (100 pages or so) and narrated in the first person. Don't expect something dark and mysterious, it's just the story of a very frustrated and unhappy man.

well i'd say its pretty dark and mysterious, even more so tahn crime and punishment! very good book anyway, more direct philosofical

The Hyperion Cantos series by Dan Simmons is my favorite sci-fi series ever. This guy captures my imagination like no-one else.

Come to think of it, I guess you're right. I last tried to read it when I was little and I remember being so humongously overwhelmed by the length of it (ours was split into like 20 volumes), I still hold respect for people that read the full version. :)

Being a big fan of Apocalypse Now, I always wondered if the book is worth reading. Well, I suppose it's a silly question, it has to be!

Ok, I'll try to have it and read it. The Gambler was also not very long and great just the same. I have a feeling he could have written The GoGer and still it would have been a masterpiece...


Is it that good as a book? Or great because of the game? Well, I like a lot Doom novels so I guess I'll love The Witcher books...

I'll say it this way: Witcher 1 and 2 are fantastic games. If you read the books, Witcher 1 and 2 become games you will never forget. The Witcher games, especially the second one, expand upon background that the books have created, and that background is thought-trought, complicated and ingenious. You will get politics, intrigue, great characters and good old intimidating Geralt. It is quite worth to read them in order starting with short stories thou.

Asking a favourite book off an avid reader is a difficult question to answer, I chose the above book because its recent and refreshing always throwing you a curve ball as to where its going.

Otherwise all of Stephen Donaldsons "Thomas Covenant" books.

LOTR - Tolkien
Other predictable stuff.
