I enjoyed Fear 1 when it was first released was a pretty good all be it scripted shooter and the haunted bits where quite good.

Fear 2 i bought in a steam sale played it got fed up with it and then went back to it only to find i was in fact 15 mins away from the ending. Didnt enjoy it as much.

Dont think ill get number 3 number 2 was too short a game.

Druidshinobi: I bought the first 2 on steam at the christmas sale, but haven't installed them since i get scared from these sort of games. kind of silly I don't really know why i bought them but i should probably try and toughen up and play them, are they really that scary?
it's not silent hill scary that it makes you nervous all the time or something like that
with fear you jump from your chair sometimes but that's all
I'm not sure being so cover centric is very good for a first person game. The entire first and second level were just me popping my head up just to see if the enemy was still around. Ducking back down, then popping up to finally shoot them. It's an awkward combination of peek-a-boo and whack-a-mole.

I guess I know why it's more popular in third person games.

That said, Fettel probably mixes that up a lot in co-op. I can see his presence really throwing enemy cover for a loop. I mean, his abilities can basically pull them out of cover entirely.

Anyway, I've got a friend who wants to do some co-op. And he knows and accepts that I want to play as Fettel. We just need to get some scheduling coincided. Then I'll be able to render a full opinion.

Druidshinobi: Hmm doesn't sound too bad then, only thing that creeps me out is the Girl which is probably the reason i avoided it. If it's not as in-your-face as dead space i can probably play it without too much problems then, thanks.

Btw is Fear 2 as 'scary' as one or is it more toned down?
I find FEAR 2 to be the scarier of the first two games. For one reason: abominations. They're both more about being action games than horror. The horror is mostly window dressing. There's only one supernatural threat in FEAR 1 and it's some ghosts that die in one hit each. They're back in FEAR 2, but FEAR 2 also has those abominations.

But, that said, it's almost entirely gunfights against soldiers. 9/10ths of both games.

I've never been scared by any FEAR game really. And this comes from someone who cannot play Amnesia because it's too scary.

That's like saying you didn't feel it when you cut your finger. And you're totally a guy who got disembowled once and felt that.

Amnesia is the scariest game ever. FEAR is a game that might be a little scary in a couple spots.

F.E.A.R. is an all out action shooter that happens to have some 'scary bits'. It's not really scary at all.
So I am through 5 of 9 levels in this game now. Sitting at 4 hours playing time, so the length is probably not that bad. It's really not a bad game, I like it, but it's not really a FEAR game.

For one thing it lacks the same kind of ambiance and style. It's more like a straight-up dude shooter and it reminds me most of Crysis 2 but without the more open areas and strategic elements. Actually level 5 is basically a Crysis 2 level, you'll have flashbacks. The graphics are good though, for a console port. Lots of blur annoys. Weapons are standard, nothing special really.

What I am most excited about is replaying it someday as Fettel, because he seems to play entirely different judging by videos.
Finished the game yesterday while waiting for Team Fortress 2 to update.

Short reaction: Superlative
Long reaction: This game has the worst ending ever conceived. I cannot describe to you how bad this is without going into spoilers. It's simply an asspull of epic proportions. They took the direction FEAR had been going with the first two games, then decided they to explore a complete tangential issue. And when that is finished... the main conflict of the series resolves itself. Like a movie that takes the to send its heroes to an ice cream shop because one character has been saying he wants ice cream all day. And then as they're leaving, the antagonist has a heart attack. Crisis over! This is bullshit of the highest order.

I mean I liked the game, otherwise. FEAR has never been particularly exceptional for writing. But it was never this bad. I had a ton of fun with the game, but the ending just leaves me sour.
